Location • The Munsee Delaware Tribe is located in Ontario, Canada.
Description of Location • The winters are cold summers are warm. • They are near Lake Erie, one of the five great lakes. • There are approximately 170 people that live on the reservation. • The Munsee people started a fast-growing tree farm – a renewable biomass energy.
Special Location • This location allows the Munsee people to live close to a water source, Lake Erie and the natural resources of the trees.
Food • No large animals are found near this area, so the trees and brush had to be cut down by the men of the tribe. • They had to plant and fertilize the land without the help of large animals, too. • The Munsee people ate what they farmed (corn, squash, beans), hunted animals (deer, elk, turkey) and ate fish.
Clothing • Women wore knee-length skirts • Men wore leggings • Men and women wore deerskin when it was cold • Men and women wore moccasins
Shelter • Started in round houses made of bark and saplings • Over time the houses became more rectangular and held multiple families. • Blankets were made of soft fur and turkey feathers
Permanent Shelter • The Munsee Shelter is permanent. • They stay in the same location year-round.
Munsee Delaware People Today • There are approximately 500 members left. • Munsee people are trying to make a sustainable life. • They are trying to create jobs for the young Munsee people through Green Initiatives.
