IMAGINE “THE CALIFORNIA GARDEN” A World Class Showcase of Horticulture and California Culture The Garden will celebrate the diverse immigrant and indigenous groups that have melded together to form California’s heritage by demonstrating their impact on the land and culture through their contributions of plants, technologies, styles, and culinary and medicinal traditions.

6. ELEMENTS OF THE GARDEN

7. INTERNATIONALHERITAGEGARDENThese will be a series of gardens representing our indigenous populations and the homeland lifestyles of each immigrant group populating California. They will display typical styles and building materials used by these. The international gardens will be reflective of conditions in the various group’s homelands at the time of their immigration to California, eg., Southeast Asian immigration in the 1970s.

8. THECONSERVATORYThe Conservatory will be the crown jewel of not only the Garden but also California, giving the state an opportunity to become a world leader in art, architecture, and technology, as well as agriculture. Architecturally modeled after the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it will be one of the world’s largest conservatories. Incorporating state of the art energy conservation and power generation technologies. it will house those environments that cannot withstand the intense Central Valley climate but which makeup much of California and represent many cultural groups living here today.

9. CALIFORNIA ENVIROMENTSThis area of the Garden will replicate California’s diverse environmental zones. The Conservatory will house those environments that cannot be sustained in the Central Valley climate.Observation boardwalks, kiosks, and model landscaping will be utilized throughout the various zones to demonstrate the plight of California’s endangered plant species and environments. Wildlife and environment friendly techniques, water conservation, and sustainable gardening techniques will be demonstrated in each of the zones.

10. CHILDREN’SDISCOVERYGARDENThis garden will stand out as one of the country’s finest children’s gardens by being not just a place for children to see things grow but to grow their minds. It will be a place of exploration, education, and adventure for the whole family.

11. CLASSICGARDENClassic gardens add a serene and distinctly different environment to our daily surroundings and are a principle attraction in most world-class gardens. The ancient cultures of Central and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa will be included in the Classic Garden. It will be composed of garden structure, architecture and plant species unique in the world of botanic gardens and will afford an opportunity for the Garden to partner with various cultural groups, sister city organizations, and the philanthropic community.

12. THEMEGARDENThe Garden will incorporate various theme gardens such as a Fragrance Garden, and a White Garden with colonnades and arbors to serve as a wedding venue. A Sculpture Garden, a Memorial Garden, and a woodland dell will be special elements in which to contemplate, discover and delight the senses.

13. COLLECTIONGARDENSANDGROVESThese areas will contain collections of specific species of flowers and plants such as varieties of roses and camellias. The tree groves will provide places to stroll and enjoy the many varieties of trees which Sacramento and California are noted for worldwide.

14. THE COMMONSThe Commons will be an open meadow suitable for outdoor festivals and shows. It will be available for various tent venues and artistic performances, as well as weddings, parties, or perhaps graduation ceremonies.

15. COMMUNITYGARDENIn close physical proximity to the Education Center, these gardens will offer community members opportunities to rent space to plant their own gardens. The Community Garden Organization will have oversight of these spaces.

16. HABITAT CONSERVATIONHabitat Conservation will be a key element in the design and operation of the Garden. Educational elements, displays, buffer zones, and areas solely dedicated to conservation will be featured.

17. EXHIBITION HALLThe Hall will be the entryway to the Garden and will include an orientation area, events and meeting rooms, visitor’s services, first-aid station, restaurants, a gift shop, a Hall of Flowers and administrative services. With state of the art lighting and refrigerated prep rooms, it will be an ideal venue for visiting art exhibits, flower shows, gardening and conservation workshops, and conferences.
