Targeting Criteria based on Efficiency Recap (1)… Data Estimated cost of Market Access Geo Layers PPF: Input, Output, Profits Agricultural Profit Frontier Available datasets: Land characteristics, biophysical conditions, socioeconomic characteristics, assets, market access, etc. Efficiency in Agricultural Profits
Recap (2)… MULTIPLE TARGETING DIMENSIONS Efficiency Allocation Criteria Typology combines all these criteria Equity Allocation Criterion
Typology Results:Efficiency, Potential and Poverty into 7 categories
Typology Classes and market access
Zooming into types: Critical without agricultural potential Areas of high poverty with low potential for agriculture and a significant number of microclimates. Mostly subsistence agriculture producing basic staples. Key policies should focus on short-term targeted assistance such as the use of conditional cash transfers, school feeding, etc.
Zooming into types: High priority Areas of high poverty but with high potential for agriculture. Key policies in these areas should focus on identifying and resolving major bottlenecks to better use the quality of the land and optimize its potential.
Zooming into types: Medium priority with agricultural potential
Zooming into types: Low priority with agricultural potential
Zooming into types: High performance Areas of low poverty rates with significant potential and high efficiency. Given their high performance, these regions could be used to learn and replicate best practices.
Zooming into types: Medium priority without agricultural potential Areas with moderate poverty rates, low potential, and medium and high efficiency. Despite the high efficiency, agricultural potential is low and as a result there are significant levels of poverty. Policies in these areas should focus on non-farm activities or activities that could give the capabilities for them to migrate as a way to increase households’ income
Zooming into types: Low priority without agricultural potential
