What is Bloom’s Taxonomy??? • -It was originally published in 1956 by a team of cognitive psychologists at the University of Chicago. It is named after the committee’s chairman, Benjamin Bloom (1913–1999). • -Bloom’s taxonomy is a classification system used to define and distinguish different levels of human cognition - i.e., thinking, learning, and understanding • -The higher levels of Bloom’s involve deeper levels of thinking and demand greater use of critical thinking skills -Thus, throughout our Socratic Seminars, we will craft questions to bring to the group that address different levels of Bloom’s -By identifying the difficulty level of our questions, we can create more purposeful conversations that help add to our depth of understanding of a text
Level 1 - Remember • -This level involves simply being able to recall or memorize information
Level 2 - Understanding • -This level involves basic comprehension of concepts
Level 3 - Applying • -This level involves taking concepts that you have learned and using them in a new way
Level 4 - Analyzing • -This level involves using analytical skills to assess a certain idea or text
Level 5 - Evaluating • -This level involves using logic and evidence to evaluate an idea or concept
Level 6 - Creating • -This level involves taking your understanding of new concepts and synthesizing multiple concepts to create something of your own
