Our New Strategic Framework Governing Council Update: May 2014
Process components & timing Moving Forward Together: Engage |Focus |Implement
Engaging … • 15 strategy focused meetings have occurred since May 2013 • Undertaken a formal consultation: • 170 countries where we work between September and January 2014 with 122 responses received. • 175 Secretariat staff responses • 17 Donor agencies Moving Forward Together: Engage |Focus |Implement
Donor thoughts … External Environment • Post 2015 Development Agenda and priority of SRHR • Increased opposition to SRHR – fundamentalism, discrimination and political opposition • Challenging funding environment • Integration of health programmes, less siloing among governments and donors Moving Forward Together: Engage |Focus |Implement
Global Issues & IPPF Working Together … Key Issues your working towards and where we can support you: • Reducing maternal mortality • Women’s rights and empowerment • Gender equality • Poverty reduction Plus other areas where we can support: • Largest youth generation • Opposition to SRHR Less importance: • Environmental sustainability / climate change • Improving access to education, in particular for girls • Ageing Moving Forward Together: Engage |Focus |Implement
IPPF’s contribution to global development objectives … • Strong SRHR advocate • Active participation at global level giving voice to CSO’s • Delivering quality SRHR services & information • Engaging youth, men & boys, reaching out to the most underserved populations • Sexual rights Keeping issues on agenda - working in partnership – holding governments and others accountable Moving Forward Together: Engage |Focus |Implement
How can we better contribute … • Organizational capacity building – country level (tailored to needs and context, building quality and consistency) and intellectual Thought Leader • Involvement of key stakeholders – young people and religious organisations • Utilise better our current structure – sometimes competing not colluding Moving Forward Together: Engage |Focus |Implement
Risks & Threats faced by IPPF … • Diverse mission – dilution of mandate from FP/RH towards broader social & humanitarian issues • Fragmentation – knowing what to leave to others • Funding & increased competition within the sector • Rise of the opposition • Not utilising our greatest asset – country based, locally operated NGO’s Moving Forward Together: Engage |Focus |Implement
Future direction … • Global movement is important but so is the country level movements • Delivery of services to all but often as an enabler working to support existing mechanisms • Utilise your global reach – reach out to other national CSO’s, build national capacity • Ensure more accountability, demonstrating results and cost effectiveness Moving Forward Together: Engage |Focus |Implement
