DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARD Fusion Power Associates Distinguished Career Awards were established in 1987 to recognize individuals who have made distinguished lifelong career contributions to fusion development The 2008 Award is presented to Prof. Osamu Motojima In selecting Prof. Motojima, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes his many years of dedication to advancing the prospects of fusion power. The Board especially notes his significant contributions to the physics and engineering design of the Heliotron-E and the LHD fusion devices and his contributions to international collaborations.

  3. 2008 LEADERSHIP AWARDS • Fusion Power Associates Leadership Awards were established in 1980 to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding leadership in accelerating the development of fusion power. • The 2008 Leadership Awards are presented to • Edward Moses and Tony Taylor

  4. Ed Moses In selecting Dr. Moses, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes his outstanding leadership of the NIF construction and of the LLNL laser program. Through his efforts the national and international inertial fusion programs are poised to take a giant leap forward toward both national security and energy applications.

  5. Tony Taylor In selecting Dr. Taylor, the FPA Board of Directors recognizes his outstanding leadership of the DIII-D National Fusion Program as well as the influential role he has been playing in guiding the U.S. Burning Plasma Program, the ITER research planning effort, and his role is several FESAC and Academies policy studies.

  6. 2008 EXCELLENCE IN FUSION ENGINEERING AWARD Fusion Power Associates Excellence in Fusion Engineering Awards, in memory of MIT Professor David J. Rose, were established in 1987 to recognize persons in the relatively early part of their careers who have shown both technical accomplishment and potential to become exceptionally influential leaders in the fusion field.

  7. The 2008 Excellence in Fusion Engineering Award is presented to Dr. E. Phillip Sharpe, Idaho National Laboratory. In selecting Dr. Sharpe, the Fusion Power Associates Board of Directors recognizes his many technical accomplishments, including key research on plasma-facing materials interactions, tritium behavior in materials, inertial fusion blanket design, and his leadership in the important area of fusion reactor safety.
