Rachel Carson was a marine biologist and conservationist. • Had a passion for nature and began career as a marine biologist. • Became a full-time nature writer in the 1950s. • Her most famous work is “Silent Spring” in 1962. A Fable for Tomorrow from Silent Spring- pg.370-1 Rachel Carson
The cultural decade. • Events: The Cold War, Vietnam War, Bay of Pigs Invasion, Communism and Nuclear threats. • JFK starts the Peace Corps and advancing technology. • Carson’s concerns with damage of pesticides in environment. • JFK called for investigation that banned DDT use in the U.S. Silent Spring and the early 60s.
Give people a wake-up call. Don’t take the nature we live in for granted. What is the point?

Stories show how people really come together to make their community a better place. Her stories inspire children and young adults to make a difference. Life today
The point that she is trying to make is that it is up to you to make a difference. What’s the point?

I think that we should appreciate our natural world around us. People tend to take it for granted and they don’t know what they had until it is gone or ruined. My Answer
