Total Place Pilot Implementation Public Service Board 10th March 2010
Lessons Learned The following are key lessons learned during the development of the deep dives included in the final Total Place report. • High level commitment to Total Place not replicated consistently within organisations. • Issues of ‘sovereignty’ and pre-occupation with existing organisations issues cloud total place thinking • Additional resources to those made available by Partners to support the delivery of the report were required. • Timescale for report delivery prevented detailed analysis of recommendations. • Communication of Total Place benefits not comprehensive.
Recommendations for a successful implementation:- • Establish a focused, dedicated core Total Place team responsible for the Access to Services and Drugs & Alcohol Misuse recommendations plus future possible ‘deep dives’. • Team to have a Place identity and be responsible for championing a place approach across and within individual organisations including behavioural change along with senior managers. • Specialist roles within organisations and established partnership groups will support the implementation. • Core budget for implementation is required. • The place Strategic Change Programme will manage dependencies and priority issues between all transformational change programmes when they arise.
