Tell me, Is This You? Public Speaking Does Not Have To Be Scary All you have to do Is find your voice!
RULE #1: Take a deep breath, and don’t panic!
Be Confident! You have all the tools for success!
You are Passionate About Your Subject Matter People respond to a speaker who believes in what they are selling You already know your material, now share what you know!
How Do We Do This? *Use humor, personal triumphs and failures *Use conversational language *Show them gardening-don’t just tell them about it *Above All-BE YOURSELF!
Helpful Hints for Your Presentation If you use a Power Point,
Add Your Own Pictures Basket liners or basket cases? A froggie on my dahlia Kitties are gardeners too! This will show you practice what you preach, and entertain at the same time
If you do not have a Power Point, how about a poster or white board? Container Gardening Soils for Containers Peat Potting Mixes Compost Seed Starters Instant Salad Barrel Planting Tumblin Tom Herbs in a dish
Create an Outline Gardening in Small Spaces A. Sun or Shade? B. Types of Containers C. Choose a Container D. What Do I Plant?
Plan your Presentation *Limit your subject matter (Narrow your topic) *Choose 3 or 4 points (You can’t cover everything today) *Expound on those points (Fully cover your topic)
Use Visual Aids Set up your visual Aids In Order of Appearance #3The Plants #1-The Pot #2-The Soil
Why Visual Aids? *They keep your place *They keep you talking *They keep your hands busy *They add a “how-to” aspect *They emphasize your point *They show others how easy the task is to perform
Tips for Success Never Apologize, Improvise! Take a deep breath & smile! Speak slowly; this is not a race! Bring a friend for moral support
Don’t memorize a speech, talk to people! Don’t read from notes or look at the floor
Don’t be afraid to add a little humor, but remember: A little humor goes a long way!
And Above All.... Practice, Practice, PRACTICE!
The Day of Your Talk *Arrive early *Make sure your video and audio works. *Greet some of the people *Bring a couple friends with you
Have you thought of what youare going to wear? You want to be remembered by Your presentation, not your clothing
Wearing comfortable clothes makes a difference Dress for comfort, and Look Professional Don’t forget your Master Gardener Badge
