3. Overview • Use router modes and configuration methods to update a router's configuration file with current and prior versions

30. Password configuration methods • enable password -- restricts access to privileged EXEC mode • enable secret password -- uses a Cisco proprietary encryption process to alter the password character string

31. Password configuration methods • service password-encryption • Further protect passwords from being displayed • This encryption algorithm does not match the Data Encryption Standard (DES)

33. Router identification conf. • Name your router • The host name and is the name displayed by the system prompt • banner motd • A message-of-the-day banner to be displayed on all connected terminals
