Synagogue • The synagogue is the Jewish house of prayer and study • The rabbi is the religious leader and teacher of a congregation and reads from the Torah, leads the prayers and gives a sermon • Services are usually led by a cantor who leads the chanting of prayers and reads from the Torah scroll (sings the psalms). The cantor is a person with a good singing voice.
The Ark • The Holy Ark is where the Torah Scrolls are kept. The Ark is the holiest place in the Synagogue • It is like a cupboard • Parochet- curtain hangs infront of the ark
