In this lesson, we will aim to: • Recap the characteristic features of the Fosse style and aim to apply these to our own performance skills. • Rehearse and refine the first section of ‘All That Jazz’ focussing especially on our expressive skills. • Complete two short choreographic tasks: one as a soloist, one as a duet.
Expressive Skills in Dance What are ‘performance skills’? • Focus • Confidence • Projection • Musicality • Characterization • Communication of idea/theme Why are these so important in the number that we are working on?
Choreographic Task • Together Pose or walk on stage 8 Counts to start • Solo choreography – using the chair – moving over, under and around. (1 X 8 counts each partner) • 1 X 8 counts. • Duo choreography – using signature Fosse stylistic features (8 X 8 counts) • 1 X 8 counts to move chair to partner or to move chair to side of stage or together ***Choreography must be slick, stylized, polished and performed with the dance skills of focus, projection and characterization.
