Nicotine • Nicotine is a clear, naturally occurring liquid which is found in several different types of plant. • Tobacco has the highest concentration. • What is the most dangerous thing about nicotine?
Nicotine • The most dangerous thing about nicotine is how addictive it is • In its pure form, nicotine doesn’t have many adverse effects on the body. The really dangerous thing is all the other chemicals you breathe in because of a smoker’s addiction! • Can you name some of these chemicals?
Nicotine • Nicotine is generally recognised to be one of the most addictive of all drugs. • Users can quickly become dependent on its effects. It can take just a couple of cigarettes for the brain to become addicted. • If someone suddenly stops taking nicotine, they usually experience prolonged withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety and mood swings. As a result the habit is hard to break.
The nicotine reaches the brain within 7 seconds It is one of the fastest acting of any drug! Once it reaches the brain, the brain releases endorphins and dopamine
Increased activity occurs here This all happens in 7 seconds! Your brain stops being able to naturally produce dopamine and endorphins, become dependent on nicotine to do this for it.
