BioPAD- Bioenergy Proliferation and Deployment BioPAD is promoting the wider use of bioenergy and developing applications targeting the whole process from supplying fuel to producing energy. By using bioenergy we will unlock the potential of our local natural resources, provide jobs and stimulate our local economies, make ourselves fuel secure and reduce our CO2emissions.
BioPAD PartnersWestern Development Commission (Republic of Ireland) – Lead PartnerAction Renewables (Northern Ireland)Environmental Research Institute (Scotland)Metla: The Finnish Forest Research Institute (Finland)BioPAD is funded by the Northern Periphery Programmewww.northernperiphery.eu of the European Regional Development Fund (Interreg IVB).
BioPAD will: • Give us a better understanding of local bioenergy supply chains • Focus on different bioenergy fuel types including wood, energy crops and agricultural and other organic wastes • Examine the supply chains needed to convert the fuels to energy (Combustion, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and Anaerobic Digestion) • Create a Bioenergy Supply Chain Tool and an App which will clearly show the steps from fuel source to energy
BioPAD will: • Help to create business linkages along these supply chains to the benefit of our local economies • Create a bioenergy network for policy makers and for bioenergy users and suppliers • Enable knowledge and best practice transfer for bioenergy supply chains throughout the Northern Periphery of Europe.
BioPAD- jobs and enterprise • Developing local bioenergy supply chains provides sustainable enterprise opportunities for individuals, communities and municipalities in Northern Europe through the use of renewable energy.
BioPAD- Supply chains • BioPAD will improve our understanding of the links between supply of bioenergy and the demand for energy by mapping supply chains for different bioenergy fuels and different energy conversion methods. • Developing local bioenergy supply chains provides sustainable enterprise opportunities for individuals, communities and municipalities in Northern Europe through the use of renewable energy.
The BioPADapproach Case Studies • Mapping and analysis of Bioenergy SC – reporting of different cases with various fuel types • Use of locally available biomass for a range of technologies (anaerobic digestion, combustion, and micro CHP (Combined Heat and Power) • Potential analysis of capabilities and gaps in regional partner supply chains in selected cases • Developing cost-effective and sustainable ways to allow the best use of biomass resources
The BioPADapproach Case Studies
The BioPADapproach Supply Chain Tool • Information on Bioenergy Supply Chain components and their attributes • Includes locally available biomass for a range of technologies: • anaerobic digestion • combustion • micro CHP (Combined Heat and Power) • Socio-economic aspects, CO2emissions, value chain • Mobile App version of the tool will be developed
BioPAD- Policy • BioPAD will help us to ensure that targeted policies and actions can increase bioenergy use and help capture the benefits of it locally • BioPAD is developing a Policy Stakeholder network.
BioPAD Policy StakeholderNetwork • Members in all partnerregions • 25 members and continuing to grow • Includespartners, associatepartners, municipalities • Forum for discussion • OperatedthroughLinked In
