Hello again Barb, It was so nice to speak w/ you, and thank you for offering to help me tell others at Sisseton Wahpeton College about this opportunity.Basically, the University of Illinois Native American Grad Student Organization has secured funds for highly qualified academic scholars at Tribal Colleges to visit our campus and talk with our community of Native Students. Our goal is to find and fund travel for 3-5 students in South Dakota (and 3-5 students from other state tribal colleges as well) who are: 1. currently in their 1st year, entering 2nd year of study in Fall 2011,2. interested in transferring to an out-of-state top-tier university such as ours http://admissions.illinois.edu/apply/requirements.html, 3. academically qualified; (SAT Reading 540/600, Math 660/770, or ACT Composite 26/31, English 26/32, Math 27/34)4. willing to speak with our students in an informal panel discussion about their academic experienceAlthough this is not a formal recruitment or scholarship, we do have multiple resources for helping students secure funds, scholarships, and financial aid if they did want to attend our school or other universities. We would also offer assistance in the application process for admittance to UIUC.It would be wonderful if you could suggest any students who may be qualified and interested. The only commitment we would ask of them is to confirm their academic qualifications, be able and willing to travel to the University of Illinois in Fall 2011 (the specific dates would be negotiated with the students in question), and be willing to participate in a 1 hour informal panel discussion with our Native students. In return, we will purchase and fully fund each student's round-trip air-fare, meals, and housing during their visit. (We may ask students if they are willing to home-stay with our students, but may also be able to support hotel fees; depending on # of interested Tribal College students.)Thank you in advance for considering this request for your help in identifying interested students. I will be submitting the funding request by May 4th, and am happy to call students you recommend to start planning their visit!Sincerely, Karen Sixkiller217-722-9145Karen D. From the Office of Heather Larsen • Due to the overflow of information on the bulletin boards by the pop machines in the hallway, the SSS Dept. made a “scholarship/internship opportunities” bulletin board in the student lounge area (right by the café entrance). It is easy to find since it is the only bulletin board in the student lounge. • If staff or faculty post any scholarship and internship opportunity flyers can you please post them in the student lounge also? It is greatly appreciated! J • This information is also being listed in the student weekly newsletter. • Thanks so much, • Heather L. Gotta have some humor! “My friend says that since it’s been snowing, all his kid’s do is look through the window. He reckons if it gets much worse he’ll have to let them in”! Aye ! Not that bad…
