  3. Curricular Program • Vocal and Instrumental courses in every grade • Specialty courses in grades 11-12 • Guitar (grade 11) • Repertoire (grades 11 and 12) • Musical Theatre (grade 12) • Instrumental Jazz (grade 12) • Specialist High Skills Major (grades 11-12)

Grade 9 Music Courses In your grade 9 Music class, you will • Sing or play, every day • Learn to read and write standard music notation • Perform music in a variety of styles, from many different cultures and time periods • Compose music and create your own songs • Use music software and apps on computers, iPads and recording devices

  6. Grade 9 Vocal Music AMV IOI • For either a beginner or an experienced singer • Perform as a class, in small ensembles and as a soloist • Learn songwriting techniques • Create CD covers and bios, music videos • In class and online listening, class discussions and blogs

Everyone helps each other out, no one wants to tear you down.” • I like how the class isn’t really stressful and that we can pick groups to perform in.   8. Instrumental Music Class instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, electric bass, percussion. Piano, guitar and strings are not available as class instruments in SJAM Instrumental Music courses.

  9. Grade 9 Instrumental Music Courses AMI 1OX Beginning Players • Learn to play a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument.   AMI 1OI Experienced Players • Continue studying the brass, woodwind or percussion instrument that you already know how to play.

  10. In your instrumental class you will • Play as a class, in small groups and on your own • Play fun pieces • pop/movie songs • styles from around the world, such as Latin or African • Traditional-style band pieces – think epic! • Do listening activities • Do composing and arranging activities
