  2. Background:NHSWI-wide staff survey, 2013 • Most respondents were generalists • Most had cared for someone dying in last 12 months • Saddened by loss of LCP • Desire for formal guidance for care of the dying • Desire to be better informed and able to deliver end of life care

  3. Development of local ICP • Local adaptation of ‘All-Wales Integrated Care Priorities for Last Days of Life’ • For all care settings • Crib sheet for less experienced to help convey important messages • Information sheets for families • Piloted in hospice before pilots in community and hospital wards – on-going

  4. In addition.... • Working with care workers to help them recognise dying and shift in emphasis of care • Held ‘end of life care’ learning events in Stornoway and Benbecula • Weekly school term time ‘lunch and learn’ sessions linking all parts of the islands by VC. Topics identified at eolc learning events.

  5. The future? • Attempts to raise the profile of palliative and end of life care throughout health and social care and at senior management level • Death cafés to encourage more open discussions about death and dying For more information, contact: gill.chadwick@nhs.net
