LCLS Injector/Linac SystemsFY05 Planning • Recent Events • Installation Schedule • Implications • Work Plan
SLAC Recent Events • Continuing Resolution • Delay in FY05 Funding from October to January delays start of Long Lead Procurement and staffing increase • Lehman review requests reschedule to reflect funding delay • Injector Systems Manager Change • WBS must change to product based to perform earned value reporting (Change proposed December ’04) • Schedule must be changed to reflect actual work plan (to be complete January ’05) • Electrical Accident • Electrical accident halts accelerator operations for five months • Experimental program changes accelerator down times • Injector must again change work plan to reflect down change
Installation Schedule (before MLK Day) Richard M. Boyce
Installation Schedule (after MLK Day) Richard M. Boyce
Down Change Implications • Shortening ’05 down moves much of installation to ’06 • ’06 installation concurrent with FFTB equipment removal (without changing FFTB demolition start) • ’06 installation concurrent with Injector vault equipment installation (without changing design work priorities) • LCLS installation activities compete with PEPII upgrade
Downtime Change Actions • Revise manpower loaded schedule • Mechanical design priorities • RF waveguide through wall (October ’05) • Pipe through wall & stopper (October ’05) • Transverse structure removal Li-11(October ’05) • In-vault design (instead of DL1) • Support-stands/cable-trays/water-headers (CF) • Attempt in-vault installation prior to Summer ’06 Down • Change LLP definition, include L1 and BC1 articulation, remove some Injector ’06 installation items • Analyze Downtime Manpower Requirements • Request Downtime Changes if Required
LCLS Injector Mechanical Design • 3-D assembly models in development • Wall and Injection regions given priority based on down times (prior to MLK Day) • Region design priority may shift based on change in down-time schedule. • Priority should shift from Wall and Injection regions to Heater, Accelerator and Gun regions • Priority shift may allow some vault installation prior to ’06 shutdown relieving manpower limitations
Linac L1 & BC1 Mechanical Design Linac 1 (L1) Bunch Compressor 1 (BC1) Treaty Point LCLS Injector/LCLS Linac Two short accelerator structures, refurbished Quads+BPMs,X&YCOR X-Band Structure (NLC) Quad + BPM, YCOR,XCOR, QE, Toroid Bunch Compressor & Diagnostics Emittance Diagnostics. LCLS Injector LCLS Linac Remove 5 S-Band Structures Electrons • BC1 component layout complete • Compressor articulation design & details complete • L1 component layout complete • Short structures available, require testing for viability • L1 could be available for installation October ’05 • Installation of L1 in Oct ’05 relieves congestion in area during ’06 downtime installation
Work in FY05 for Systems Unaffected • Drive laser transport studies at ANL LLNL • Drive laser transport design • Drive Laser procurement • RF Gun Procurement • RF Gun Studies • RF Structure Dual Feed Design & Fabrication • Magnet Procurement
Work Plan Next 6 Months • BCR required to correct for downtime change • BCR to include Injector system integration tasks • Matrix in Klystron Dept. engineering and design support for Injector/Linac RF under Dave Schultz • Design/procure RF Gun • Design/fabricate L0 dual feed structures • Award drive laser procurement • Begin procurement of X-Band system • Begin procurement of LLP Magnets • Complete L1 & BC1 articulation details and fabricate • Complete BC1 diagnostics design & details • Obtain Radiation Physics approval of safety dump design • Develop commissioning plans • Develop detailed installation plan
