  13. VISION 2020Water Consumption YMCA Fitness and Recreation Centres use 35,000,000 liters of water per year. By reducing water consumption by 6.7%, or 19,000,000 liters annually we’ll save enough water for 20 people to take a continuous shower for a year or fill about 8 Olympic pools. If you are thirsty, we could fill 54 Million bottles of 350 ml water with the water we plan to save per year.

  14. VISION 2020Electrical Consumption On average, we use 2,600,000 kilowatt (kw) hours of electricity per year. By reducing our overall electrical consumption by 13% or 3,000,000kw hours we will be able to power 17,500 homes (or one of our Fitness and Recreation Centres).

  15. VISION 2020Natural Spaces Enhancing 15% of our acreage through the creation of natural playgrounds, forest restoration, trail maintenance and green roofs, we can support sustainable improvements to over 140 acres of (natural land/green space) which will be used to educate youth. That is the same as creating 1220 soccer fields over 10 years

  16. VISION 2020Gas Consumption We currently use 500,000 cubic meters of natural gas per year at our Fitness and Recreation Centres. In reducing our natural gas consumption by 18% or 900,000 cubic meters, it’s equivalent to heating 300 homes across the GTA. (On average, each single-family home consumes about 3000 cubic meters of natural gas in Ontario.)

  17. VISION 2020Carbon Footprint We’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint by reducing CO² emissions and making sure our Centres are conveniently located so members can walk, bike, take transit or car pool to access YMCA services. By reducing our overall emissions by 30% (7,500 tons), this amount is equal to planting 37,500 trees per year, or taking 1400 cars off the road annually.
