  1. Reach for it!

  2. What would you do if...? Imagine your friend came to you with these problems. What would you say? • He has just graduated but doesn't like the major he studied • She wants to meet a good guy, but hasn't had a boyfriend for a while • He is gay but his parents don't know • She thinks her boyfriend is cheating on her, but doesn't have any proof • He wants to get a better job

  3. What is your problem? • Write down 3-4 real problems you'd like advice on • Make sure they're different • Not "1: speaking, 2: listening, 3: vocabulary" • Now, GET UP and talk to 3 students from other groups • Give them advice • Ask for advice • Switch!

  4. A couple more problems... Discuss these with your partners: • James wants to be an artist, but he studied accounting in university. He's always loved painting, but he's an only child and he isn't sure if he can make enough money at it to support his parents. They want him to keep his accounting job. • Trisha is doing well at a job she loves, but one of her coworkers is overly aggressive. This colleague takes credit for group work and he often speaks badly about others. Trisha is worried that the coworker has said bad things about her to their boss and may hurt her chances at a promotion.

  5. Ambition • Are you ambitious? • Is ambition good? • Do you know anyone who is too ambitious? • Do you have any very unusual or crazyambitons? • Do you have any very big ambitions? • Discuss what you think of these quotes: • "Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings"-Salvador Dali • "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." -Helen Keller

  6. What are your ambitions? • Write down one long-term ambition • Write down 3-5 ambitions to achieve within five years • Now discuss these with your group • Get some advice and offer some help

  7. Welcome to the future! • It's not now; that was five years ago! Imagine it! • You're at a reunion • You've been very successful in acheiving your ambitions • Go up and "re-acquaint" yourself with students from other tables • "I know we've met before. My name's ____. How have you been?" • Ask about: • Families • Careers • Travels • Anything else!

  8. Red, Yellow, Green • Pick one very important ambition • Write down one thing you can do today to help it to come true • Write down one thing you need to stop doing to acheive this • Write down one habit to help you complete the journey • "If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done. Make at least one definite move daily toward your goal."-Bruce Lee
