  2. What’s it for? • A summary of who you are and what you care about • What do you spend your “free” time on? • Shows colleges what you do aside from academics • Have to decide what’s most important to you! • Only 1 page long

  3. Format • Make it clear, organized, and concise • Group into sections: • Jobs/Internships • Volunteering • Extracurriculars • Academic awards • Other skills • Write brief descriptions of each position/activity and when you did them • Should not go too far back before high school

  4. Format • Include your contact info (name, e-mail, phone number) and your education info (high school and class rank) • These should be at the top • There are lots of ways to organize this nicely- find a template you like online! • http://www.newhavenreach.com/resume.html • Download “Sample Resume Format 1”

Where to Start • Make a list of everything you do or have done in high school • Jobs/Internships • Volunteering • Extracurriculars: sports, clubs, summer programs, etc. • Awards: honor roll, etc. • Skills: word, excel, languages • These can be from inside or outside of school • Don’t go to far back beyond high school- keep it recent

  6. What to Include • Need to fit it on 1 page and be descriptive • Pick the activities that are most important to you! • Which show the most about you? • Emphasize leadership positions • Show off your work habits and determination • Reveal what experience/skills you have

  7. Organize • Contact and education info should be at the top • Then order your groups based on how important they are to you and how impressive they look • Describe each activity/position • E.g. captain of the soccer team; organized practices and led warm-ups • Emphasize your leadership! • Put it into a template you like!
