  2. Salvador Dali He was born in 1904 and died in 1989. He did over 1500 paintings during his years he worked. He started painting when he was about 6 years old (Landscape Near Figueras) starting with a small painting he made in 1910. The movement he was in was the Surrealism Movement. He painted his first painting in 1910 with Landscape Near Figueras. He finished his painting in 1983 with The Swallow's Tail.

  3. The Surrealism Movement Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s, and is best known for the visual artworks and writings of the group members. This Movement is what Salvador Dali was involved in. He got involved in this movement during the 1930’s and continues through till the 1980’s.

  4. Metamorphosis of Narcissus (1937) Metamorphosis of Narcissus is an oil-on-canvas painting by the Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali. This painting is from Dali's Paranoiac-critical period. According to Greek mythology, Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection in a pool.

  5. Soft Construction with Boiled Beans (1936) Salvador Dali made this painting to represent the horrors of the Spanish Civil War.

  6. Swans Reflecting Elephants (1937)  This painting is from Dali's Paranoiac-critical period. Painted using oil on canvas, it contains one of Dali's famous double images.

  7. The Basket of Bread (1926)  The painting depicts four pieces of bread with butter on them sitting in a basket. One is separated from the others and is half-bitten.

  8. The Burning Giraffe (1937) Dali painted Burning Giraffe before his exile in the United States which was from 1940 - 1948. Although Dali declared himself apolitical— "I am Dali, and only that"—this painting shows his personal struggle with the battle in his home country.

  9. The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus (1959) Begun in 1958 and finished in 1959. It is over 14 feet tall and over 9 feet wide, one in a series of large paintings Dali did during this era.

  11. The Elephants (1948) The Elephants continues Dali's theme of using spider-legged Elephants, which had previously appeared in The Temptation of Saint Anthony.

  12. The Face of War (1940) This was a painting during a brief period when the artist lived in California. The trauma and the view of war had often served as inspiration for Dali’s work.

  15. The Persistence of Memory (1931) The Persistence of Memory is a 1931 painting by artist Salvador Dali, and is one of his most recognizable works.

  16. The Sacrament of the Last Supper (1955) The Sacrament of the Last Supper is a painting by Salvador Dali. Completed in 1955, after nine months of work, it remains one of his most popular compositions.

  17. The Swallow's Tail (1983) This painting was completed in May 1983, and was the final part of a series based on Rene Thom's catastrophe theory.

  18. Tuna Fishing (1967) This painting is filled chaotically with the violent struggle of the men in the picture and the big fish.
