CPD Scheme 2010 • Effective date: 1 July 2010 • There are only two CPD categories: • Category 1: All members holding a Practising Certificate • Category 2: All other members in paid work
Requirements for Category 2 Members in Category 2 must undertake verifiable CPD activities comprising a mixture of private study and attendance at events in accordance with one of the options in the table. The CPD must comprise learning on a mixture of skills which are technically and professionally relevant to the member’s particular role. At least 5 hours must be undertaken in the form of attendance at one of more events, one of which must be external.
Requirements con’td Members may claim up to 8 hours for Service to the Profession which is in the form of: • membership of a committee or board • working party • examiner, where you have attended the training day or examiner meetings
Exemptions or Concessions With the exception of those in Category 1, Members may apply for an exemption if they are not in paid work for more than 20 hours per annum or where their training and experience make no contribution to their paid work. These will be exceptional cases and will not be granted to those in non-executive director or trustee roles or in senior roles more generally. Members may apply for a concession where they have been absent from work for more than 6 consecutive months in a single reporting year. These members will however still be required to record at least 5 hours of CPD which can be done by private reading. All applications for the above must be made by 30 April in each reporting year.
Sanctions (in short) • Members who fail to make application for an exemption by deadline of 30 April will be required to pay an administration fee of £50 to enable them to apply by 30 September. • Members who fail to record their CPD online by the deadline of 31 July will be required to pay an administration fee of £50 to enable their record to be updated by 30 September. Details will require to be submitted to the profession. • Members who fail to submit their CPD records or fail to submit an application for exemption by 30 September shall incur a further charge of £750 and their name will be published on the profession’s website. • Alternatively, any member who has not made payment of the administration fee and whose qualifying CPD has not been recorded as at 1 August may elect to have the matter referred directly to the Disciplinary Scheme when their names will not be published until the outcome of the process is determined.
