APRIL GRAFF, MS, RD, LD • April received a bachelor's degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in dietetics and Spanish and her master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in human nutritional science. April is currently the Registered Description of the RunSmartProgram RunSmartis coordinated by an exercise physiologist, sport psychology consultant, and registered dietitian using the latest science and research in their fields. The RunSmart program includes two 2 hour sessions that focus on physiological, psychological, nutritional, and biomechanical assessment and information. The four aspects of the RunSmart program include: 1. Biomechanical Analysis: Our biomechanical analysis begins with a set of musculoskeletal tests (i.e., core strength, flexibility, and postural) associated with optimum running form. We will also examine your running form with a video gait analysis. 2. Physiological Analysis: Our physiological analysis is based on an all-out treadmill running test (3 minutes) that identifies youranaerobic threshold, your anaerobic capacity, and your maximal aerobic steady state (also known as your critical velocity). These physiological measures will help predict your running performance and structure precise target times for tempo runs and interval training so you can reach your optimal running potential. 3. Mental Strategies: This component of our RunSmart program focuses on tangible strategies that you can use when racing and training to help you reach your optimum potential using your mind. Topics discussed include mental toughness, confidence, dealing with pain and adversity, and setting flexible but focused goals. 4. Nutritional Analysis: This component of the RunSmart program focuses on how to fuel your body for peak performance. We will discuss how to eat on a day-to-day basis as well as training days and competing. We will also discuss fueling before, during and after endurance runs. CINDRA KAMPHOFF, PH.D. Cindra is a Certified Sport Psychology Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and operates her own consulting practice called The Runner’s Edge. She specializes in the psychology of running and marathoning. She is currently conduction research on the • RunSmart is a multidisciplinary program that helps runners reach their optimum running potential and prevent injuries. The RunSmart program includes assessments and information on the runner’s mind, body, and nutrition. The program is for runners of all levels including those beginning or seasoned competitors. psychology of marathoning focusing on how marathoners overcome pain and adversity while training and competing. She is also interviewing elite marathoners who have qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials about how they have developed and maintained their mental toughness. She has published over 15 journal articles in sport psychology. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her B.S. from the University of Northern Iowa. • Two 2 hour sessions focus on physiological, psychological, nutritional, and biomechanical assessment and information. Robert is an exercise scientist at Minnesota State University, Mankato and has worked in various capacities of sports performance and strength and conditioning coaching across seven states within the US. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist with the National Strength & Conditioning Association and a certified athletic trainer with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Bob is an expert in the assessment of endurance athletes. He has a PhD in Exercise Science with emphasis in Exercise Physiology from the University of Utah, an MS in Exercise Science with emphasis in Human Performance from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and a BS in Physical Education with emphasis in Athletic Training from SUNY Cortland.
