Aims and Objectives • Why – importance – shaping how you critique • Key theoretical approaches • Understanding what has shaped and informed the character of contemporary themes, issues and debate. • Analysis of culture, media and communication • Impact of approaches - means of understanding out cultural and media world. • Variety of theoretical approaches to the analysis of media and culture • Consider these in relation to contemporary topics and themes.
181MC on Moodle • How to get onto Moodle and how to access 181MC contents On 181MC Moodle page you will find: • Module handbook • Assessment document • Lecture slides – these go ‘live’ after each lecture and are not available in advance • Any announcements we may post • Submission of work – how to do it • Check your emails for any messages that may be broadcasted from Moodle
Structure of 181MC: lecture and seminars • Lecture – 9:30am to 10:30am • Seminar Set Up – 10:30-11 discussion and setting task • Seminar – 1:30pm - 3pm Registers will be taken in lectures and in seminars to monitor attendance

Overview of assessment (1/2) • Individual essay – 1,500 word limit • You pick one question from the list given in the assessment document on Moodle • Deadline for submission: Tuesday 19th November • Route of submission – electronic, via Turnitin and one hard copy via ET Reception
Overview of assessment (2/2) Requirements: • Individual essay. • Word count / word limit: 1,500 words. • Your bibliography IS NOTincluded in the word count. • Wikipedia and online dictionaries should NOT be used for references. • It is a requirement to submit a copy of your group blog in the appendix of your essay. The blog is NOT included in the word count and is NOT assessed but it provides evidence of group work. • It is a requirement to reference correctly to Harvard standard • You must submit your completed essay via Moodle no later than 5pm on Tuesday 19th November. There will be a detrimental impact to your marks if you fail to comply with the requirements
