DPI organized the 19th Regional Training Seminar on Capacity Building for PWDs in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Jan. 2002.
DPI organized the 20th Regional Training Seminar on Capacity Building for PWDs in Shanghai, China, October 2002.
UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) • “self-help organization” is one of 12 areas of the 1st Agenda for Action for the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons Examples - Assistance to the development of self-help organizations of disabled persons - Promotion of non-handicapping environments • “self-help organization” is one of 7 priority areas in the Biwako Millennium Framework for the 2nd Decade

DPI held the First National Conference of Representatives of Lao Disabled Persons in May 1999. (Leadership Training)
DPI organized the 2nd Regional Leadership Training of Women with Disabilities in Thailand in April 2003.
Group of PWDs conducted accessibility survey in National Zoo in Yangon, Myanmar as part of Leadership Training.
The zoo, later, agreed to provide ramps, toilets and other facilities accessible for PWDs. PWDs’ voice was heard.

(2) Promotion of accessibility • DPI-Thailand Demonstration for making the skytrain accessible • DPI-Korea Demonstrating and hanger strike for accessible subway and bus • DPI-India Accessibility check and
Diability movement in Thailand. Demonstration was launched in 1995 requested accessibility in Mass Transit System.
As a result of the demonstration,5 stations of the sky train were remodeled.

(3) Income generation • Persons with Disabilities’ Self-Initiative to Development (PSID) project run by Bangladesh Protibandhi Kallyan Somity (DPI-Bangladesh)
Persons with Disabilities’ Self-Initiative to Development (PSID) • Started in 1999 in 2 districts • Implemented in 13 districts among 64 districts in the country. • Develop financial capacity on management and development of grassroots PWDs organization and establish savings fund of grassroots organization members on weekly basis to ensure members income-generation activities • Other PSID activities are professional capacity building and skill training, network, assistive devices production, information and referral, organizing meetings, employment exchange, marketing of PWDs product, recreational and cultural activities, accommodation and administrative works
