2. Mission Líderes is a national program designed to increase opportunities for Latino youth that will maximize their influence as leaders in the United States. Vision Our vision is to support and nurtureyoung Latino leadership across all sectors of society—corporate executives, public officials, activists, and organizers—who will serve their communities and promote social justice at the local and national levels. The Líderes Initiative operates throughthreeinterrelated strategies: Our Network - Providing vital resources, connections, and information. Our Events - Facilitating convening and coalition-building. 3. Our Programs - Providing avenues for leadership development.
3. Líderes Summit: Program Overview Every year, the Líderes Summit at the NCLR Annual Conference brings together nearly 500 young leaders from student organizations and NCLR Affiliate youth programs throughout the country.  Participants polish their leadership and professional skills, discuss issues that affect the Latino community, and explore ideas for community involvement and empowerment. SUMMIT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: Líderes keynote meal events that feature high-profile speakers and youth-led artistic performances Twenty peer-led workshops (Tracks:  Education, Health, Leadership Development, Cultural Appreciation, Media and the Arts, Advocacy and Policy, Financial Planning, and Career Readiness) Líderes Check-Ins that feature dynamic informational sessions and foster networking among youth leaders Entertainment and activities for youth participants including an opening dance, Cultural Talent Showcase, Noche de Premios(Awards Night), and team contests. 5. NCLR Escalera Program: Taking Steps to Success In 2001, NCLR created the EscaleraProgram to support the development of youth who – because of academic, financial, or familial reasons – may be at risk of not graduating from high school, but have a high potential for success. Characteristics of the target population include, but are not limited to, youth who are: Latino Low income English-language learners First generation college bound

7. NCLR Escalera STEM Model In 2007, NCLR designed and implemented an Escalera Program model focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The focus on STEM responds to the growing need for preparing and inspiring a young, diverse workforce for STEM careers, where there is a shortage of employees of color and a lack of knowledge about career opportunities. 9. NCLR Education Network Over 200 NCLR Affiliates offer education services and include early childhood education programs, K-12 charter schools, and afterschool programs. NCLR education programs focus on developing the capacity of school leadership teams, teachers, and parents to support high academic achievement in Latino students. In 2012 alone, NCLR education programs provided technical assistance and professional development through a variety of training institutes and site-based support to approximately 150 Affiliates, reaching more than 330 teachers and service providers, and more than 5,600 students and 2,500 parents. NCLR also increasingly partners with non-Affiliates that have access to large numbers of Latino students. For example, in 2012, NCLR worked with the YMCA of the USA and two public school districts.
10. Math at Home Mathematics at Home (M at H) is a new parent engagement curriculum developed by NCLR that is specifically focused on STEM education in middle school. This curriculum is a supplement to NCLR’s existing parent engagement program. The program does not train parents directly; rather, facilitators are trained at each school or community-based organization. Because these facilitators are part of the community and work regularly with parents, NCLR believes this feature fosters closer relationships with parents and helps institutionalize the program. NCLR is currently seeking funds to conduct national trainings and increase the number of participating sites.
11. Early STEM Education NCLR’s preschool parent engagement program focuses on developing parents’ capacity to understand their children’s early development process and support their readiness to begin school. This program is currently being implemented in dozens of NCLR Affiliates across the country and in several public schools, including the District of Columbia Public Schools. NCLR is seeking funding to expand the curriculum to include additional lessons on STEM.
12. Afterschool STEM Program One of NCLR’s earliest education programs was an afterschool curriculum specifically focused on STEM, which was used widely throughout the network. The curriculum consists of a series of lessons that can be implemented by paraprofessionals in a number of out-of-school settings. NCLR seeks funding to revise, update, and expand the program throughout and beyond the NCLR network.
13. Potential New Projects STEM scholars program: NCLR will administer a scholarship competition for high school students in the NCLR school network that graduate with an A/B average in high level STEM courses. STEM mentorship program: NCLR will develop a mentorship program that connects undergraduate students majoring in STEM areas with high school students in the NCLR network who have expressed interest in the STEM fields. STEM conference: NCLR will coordinate a multi-day, multi-track conference for Latino educators and students. For educators, the sessions will focus on best practices in promoting STEM education across the curriculum. For students, the sessions will focus on raising awareness and interest in STEM careers. STEM learning labs: NCLR will work with two schools to develop STEM learning labs where NCLR can demonstrate, pilot, and expand best practices in programs for students, parents, and teachers.

Institutional Credibility NCLR was selected as one of the best nonprofits in the United States by a survey of nearly 3,000 nonprofit CEOs and 60 expert interviews conducted for the book Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits. Charity Navigator honored NCLR with a Four-Star Rating based on fiscal integrity and responsibility.
19. Corporate Champions Program NCLR’s Corporate Championsprovide critical unrestricted funding, which enables the organization to deliver high-quality programs, influence public policy outcomes, produce world-class events, and be a strong voice on behalf of the Latino community.
