Mojave Desert • Desert-a place where the soil is so dry few plants can grow. • A desert is a place with less then ten inches of rain.
Panama Isthmus-A narrow strip of land that connects two larger bodies of water. Panama is so narrow a canal runs through it.
Hudson Bay Bay-an area mostly surrounded by water. A bay is like an island but it’s surrounded by land
Jones Beach Beach-expanse of sand or pebbles along a shore. Jones Beach is on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
Erie Canal Canal-an artificial waterway. A canal is sort of like a river, but is man made.
Gulf of Mexico Gulf-large arm of sea partially enclosed by water A gulf is sort of like a bay, but a lot bigger.
Grand Canyon Canyon-deep narrow valley. A canyon is like a valley, but a lot steeper.
Boston Harbor Harbor-closed part of a body of water where ships can anchor. Harbors are places that ships can dock.
Cape Cod Cape-A big piece of land going into the sea. Cape cod looks like a hook sticking out in the ocean.
Lake George Lake-water surrounded by land. Lakes are the opposites of islands.
