  2. Context • Now • CASTOR 2.1.7/2.1.8 NS hybrid • Stable…but lack of new features • Left behind • Proposal • Upgrade to 2.1.9 during 2010 after comprehensive testing

  3. Why change? • New features: • Data integrity: Checksumming for all files • B&W lists. DoS protection • Better draining tools • Fix addressing time-out problem • xroot • Same version as CERN -> better support • Improved participation within project • Feeding in our requirements • Commitment to the ‘right’ solution

  4. Upgrade plans • Functional and Stress testing using • certification + preproduction. Include ‘dry-run’ prod. db upgrades • VO participation in testing • Testing of post-upgrade rollback scenario (if possible) • NS to 2.1.9 and then upgrade each VO

  5. Apr’10 May ’10 Jul ’10 Sep ‘10 Timeline (from Gantt chart) Stress current version on preprod Test upgrade NS and functional test Test upgrade to 2.1.8 & functional/stress test Test upgrade to 2.1.9 & functional/stress test Test upgrade snapshots of production db Present final plans to VOs and seek approval Ready to upgrade NS + production instances (Gen,CMS,LHCb,ATLAS)
