How Title 1 works • The federal government provides funding to school districts each year. • School districts identify schools that are eligible to receive funds.
A Title 1 school works to: • identify students most in need of educational help • set goals for improvement • measure student progress, according to KCAS/CCR • develop programs that add to regular classroom instruction • involve parents in all aspects of the program
Two types of Title 1 programs • Schoolwide programsSchools with 40% or more of its children from low-income families can develop schoolwide Title 1 programs to serve all students. Schoolwide programs can combine Title 1 funds with federal, state, and local funds to improve school programs. • Targeted assistance programsSchools with 35-39% of its children from low-income families can have a Targeted Assistance Program. These schools will work out a plan to make sure that children served by Title 1 meet KY’s achievement standards. Targeted assistance programs cannot combine federal, state, and local funds.
As a parent, you’re part of the Title 1 team! • The parent-school compactstates the goals and responsibilities of both parents and schools. • The parent involvement policyhelps parents understand and take part in the school’s efforts.
Our School’s Title 1 Grant • Our School’s Title 1 Grant for 2014-2015 is $93,220 which, when combined with other funds, pays for 1 Intervention Teacher, 1 Reading Intervention Teacher, 1 Math Specialist, and 1 Writing Curriculum Specialist. It also pays for professional development, instructional supplies and supplemental instructional materials. • Our school has a Title 1 Schoolwide Program which focuses on improving student achievement in all academic areas.
Math Specialist • Work with small groups of students on concrete math skills, mainly computation to create a solid math foundation. These students might change depending of the content being taught in the classroom and data throughout the year.
Reading Interventionist (RTA) • Individual first grade students receive a half-hour lesson each day for 12 to 20 weeks with a trained teacher. • Individual first grade students receive an intense half-hour lesson each day for 12 to 20 weeks • Conduct Reading Intervention groups in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades • Completes program evaluation/data for RTA Grant.
Intervention Teacher • Works with small groups of students to improve reading comprehension and other necessary language arts skills • Works with small groups of students to improve math skills • Tracks Tier 2 data and revises groups based on progress monitoring • Collaborates with teachers/ other intervention staff to form the best plan for identified students
Writing Curriculum Specialst • Helps teachers by modeling good lesson planning and teaching. • Helps teachers with organizing and planning reading and writing instruction for groups of children. • Reduces the teacher to student ratio for instruction.
