The goal of this project is to assemble and align four devices on each production girder to ensure precise installation in the Undulator hall. This document outlines the girder assembly and alignment plan, including positional tolerances for various devices. The assembly techniques, device stand pre-alignment, and final alignment using CMM are discussed.

Girder Assembly and Alignment Goal is to assemble and precision align 4 devices on each production girder prior to final installation in the Undulator hall The document controlling the Girder Alignment Plan exists in the LCLS document library technical notes under LCLS-TN-08-3
Girder Assembly Major girder assembly devices: • Quadrupole Magnet • Beam Finder Wire • Undulator Beam Vacuum Tube • Beam Position Monitor
Girder Assembly and Alignment Device positional tolerances: • X direction +/- 60 microns • Y direction +/- 40 microns • Z direction +/-500 microns These tolerances are for the BPM, BFW, Quad, and Undulator magnets
Girder Assembly and Alignment Device positional tolerances for Undulator beam pipe are: • X direction +/- 50 microns • Y direction +/- 40 microns • X straightness +/- 200 microns • Y straightness +/- 100 microns
Girder Assembly and Alignment • Assembly Techniques • Device stand pre-alignment on multiple CMM’s • ZX position pre-alignment girder tooling • Undulator beam tube straightening
CMM Final Alignment • Leitz CMM utilized for final adjustments and device location verification • All undulator translation slide stops, both electronic and hard, are set, tested, and verified prior to moving an undulator on to the girder assembly • All girder assemblies to have the undulator fit over vacuum chamber while on the CMM • Girders are now RFI
