Food= Fuel • Imagine our lives are a video game. Your task is to help others and stomp out the bad guys. In order to continue in the game, you need fuel so along the way you pick up fuel points. Volunteer?
Food= Fuel • What happens if you pick up too much fuel? • In the game: slow, hard to stomp, hands are full so it is hard to help people, your fuel hurts you and doesn’t help • In life: Our bodies have to work so hard on the inside digesting our food, so we feel slow, sleepy, and we have a hard time focusing.
How much Fuel (food) do we need? • Small Meals: Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner • Eat when you are hungry • How much do you exercise? • The more fuel we use, the more we need • BUT…… we need the RIGHT fuel!!
Food=Fuel • What happens when our cars, lawn mowers, or boats get the wrong fuel? • Don’t run properly, can break later • Life: our body doesn’t get everything it needs and can shut down and/or not work properly
What kind of fuel do we need? When we fuel our body with the right things, it works better, we feel better, we look better, and we live longer.
Why talk about fueling our body? • Unfortunately LOTS of us are not fueling our body correctly. We are really hurting ourselves in many ways. One in three children are considered overweight or obese and this means they are more likely to get sick and may die earlier than expected.
What can you do? • Make wise choices by fueling your body when it needs it (when you are hungry) and with proper fuel.
Fast Food- Healthier Choices • Avoid words like: FRIED, special sauce, or super size • Look for words like: grilled, fresh fruit/vegetables, wheat buns Salads with low fat/ fat free dressings Regular hamburgers Grilled sandwiches/wraps
What can you do?Cut down on sugar • How much sugar does our body need? Be aware of what you are drinking. How many scoops of sugar are in this drink?
