  3. Mission Statement To promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in Australia, working jointly with CSIRO. The aim is to engage students in these disciplines and foster innovation and creativity to create future leaders and entrepreneurs to tackle global and local challenges.

  4. Objectives • Increase participation rates within the science fairs supported by ASTA and CSIRO • To have 3 student finalists in ISEF in 2013, 4 in 2014 • Support the STEM curriculum via the STAs • Promote STEM with La Trobe University and CSIRO • Promote Intel’s Skoool program • Introduce Intel’s Inquiry in the Science Classroom – Intel Teach courses ~ Elements

Long Term Goals • Support the Australian Curriculum (with ESA) and focus on STEM to Australian schools • Promote STEM to all students – 6000+ students: Mkting/PR • Create a Knowledge economy for Australia using STEM to focus on innovation • Motivate and promote our STEM achievers • Support our STEM ecosystem, especially teachers and professional associations in Australia

CSIRO Education Goals • alert school students, teachers and families to the vital contribution of CSIRO and scientific research to the community • encourage students to take up careers in science, engineering and technology • engage and enthuse students, teachers and the wider community about science and its applications.

  9. STEM : Key Points/reflections • Science and STEM should be part of our culture – like music, the arts. • Misconceptions – STEM is for nerds.. • Science broaden career opportunities. Eco development – Pol message • YouTube channel – for BHP Bill awards – • Create a dedicated web site for social media links – (Israel + Brasil ) Teachers/students/winners • Get student to design a social media hub – create a competition.. • Increase inclusion from Gov – Fed – State. Funding/Policy • Better partnership models – BHP/ create share value models to drive outcomes/results. Other Aust Industries employers. (Eureka Awards) • Get Russ to video the BHP Awards Presentation – 26 national Finalist – backdrop to PR strategy • Get our PM to be an honorary sponsor – patron of the BHP and ISEF awards – finalists..(our kids are rock stars..!) • STA’s on rotational invite to Ed Ac – 3 people + CSIRO – bi-funded my CAG Australia ($12.5 k) • Online reg (web portal – e-system dev) – to stream line the process. • Build Crest to grow the fairs. + support Intel PD • DEEWR -Fed Gov : invite – STEM lead – at Ed Acad in 2014.

  10. Top 3 items to action • Workshop with Shell on Inq in the Science CR. + Jon Price round table. • Streamline online process – registration : and enabling STA to work in a collaboratively way • Develop a joint 1-3 year PR strategy with CSIRO.
