Each Rotary Club • Remember: • We are members of a club • and the club is a member of Rotary International. • Rotarians are members of their specific Rotary Club. • Each Rotary club is a member of Rotary International • Rotarians are not a member of Rotary International but only of their specific club.

  7. Each Rotary Club • Remember: • It is the purpose of The District and Rotary International to supports their clubs. • Rotary International, and our Rotary District 5890 depend on clubs for their existence. • Rotary International and District 5890 are our the support groups for our club.

  8. Lets Take A Look At Rotary How are we of service to all mankind in today’s world?

  9. 2 Main Parts To Rotary Rotary International • Non-Profit Org. • Clubs • Districts • Zones • International Organization The Rotary Foundation • It Is A Charity • Operates separately from Rotary International • Has a separate Board of Trustees • Is our access to World peace

  10. Basic Statistics • There are more than 1.2 million Rotarians in the world. • Your club is one of more than 32,000 clubs worldwide. • Clubs are in Districts • Our district is District 5890. • Districts are in zones

  11. Basic Statistics • The world is divided into 34 zones each with about 37,000 Rotarians • ‘We are in Zone 21 • Zone 21 is an International Zone and is divided into two parts • We are in one sub zone --21B • Our district is District 5890.

  15. District 5890 • Has 60 Clubs with ~3,700 Rotarians • We encompass 9 Counties: Austin, Brazoria, Colorado, Fort Bend, Harris, Waller, Washington, Matagorda, and Wharton • There are 9 Districts in Texas and part of another.

  16. Basic District Leadership • Each district is governed by a District Governor. He or She is the only Official Rotary International Officer for that district. • The District Governor serves for one year.

  17. District Leadership Continued • Each Governor appoints several assistant Governors to help them oversee the clubs • This year we have 6 Lieutenant Governors who assist 2-3 Assistant Governors. • WE have17 Assistant Governors (AG’s). Each AG is assigned to ~2-4 clubs

  18. District Leadership Continued • All Rotary Clubs in the district look to the Governor and their Lieutenant Governors and Assistant Governors for leadership, inspiration and motivation.

  20. Officially Rotary is - - • Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide : • humanitarian service, • encourage high ethical standardsin all vocations, • And help build goodwill and peacein the world..

  21. Understanding Rotary Rotary’s Goals • Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. • The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, non religious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

What Does A Rotary Club do? • ROTARY provides Humanitarian Service • Builds Goodwill & Peace in the World • Develops the opportunity to Build Lifelong Friendships with people you would never have met, except through Rotary • Provides you the opportunity to represent your profession and to demonstrate how ethical standards are a vital part of your day to day occupation. • Makes the quality of your life more meaningful.

  23. Rotary’s Objectives • The main objective of Rotary is service — • in the community, (Community Service) • in the workplace, (Vocational Service) • and throughout the world. (International Service)

  24. Well, how do we do this? • address many of today's most critical issues, such as: Children at risk, Preventable Disease Poverty and hunger, Safe drinking water, The environment, Illiteracy, and Violence. Rotarians develop projects that:

  25. Funding Our International Service Projects • This is accomplished, in part, through a charitable foundation that Rotary International has established. “The Rotary Foundation” • It allows us to raise money for service projects on a tax advantaged basis.

The Charity that Funds Rotary Service isThe ROTARY FOUNDATION • EDUCATIONAL • Ambassadorial Scholarships • GSE Teams • World Peace Scholars • University Teacher Grants • Cultural Scholarships • HUMANITARIAN • Polio Plus & Eradication • Matching Grants • Community Assistance • Disaster Relief Grants • 3-H (Health, Hunger, & Humanity) Grants Each Rotarian’s Minimum Annual Contribution - $100

The Charity that Funds Rotary Service isThe ROTARY FOUNDATION • Rotary Foundation allows a form of recognition called , • The Paul Harris Fellowship, • where individuals are recognized for service contributions in a distinctive and honorable fashion. • Whether a Rotarian or non-Rotarian it is a distinct honor to be awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship.

  28. Rotarians Also Support • programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, • and we support vocational and career development.

  30. Most Clubs Express Our Values Weekly by Reciting The 4-Way Test • Of the Things We Think, Say, or Do • Is It The Truth? • Is it Fair To All Concerned? • Will It Build Goodwill and Better Friendships? • Will It Be Beneficial to All Concerned?

  31. Interact • Rotary type service organization for high school aged persons • Interact Clubs are sponsored by Rotary clubs.

  32. Rotaract • Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. • Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club

Your Obligation In Rotary • Participation and/or Working: • In your fund raisers • Service Projects • Committee activities • Attendance –100% is encouraged 50% is required. 30 % in your club • Cannot miss more that 4 consecutive meetings • We are obligated to share Rotary Membership with other qualified business representatives

  39. Attendance • Unlike other organization, attendance at Rotary meetings is not an option.—We are expected to attend. • Attend your club meeting or the meeting of another Rotary Club within 14 days of your missed meeting.

  40. Why We Stress Attendance • Attendance at meeting assures us of quality programs. • Allows us to meet our meeting place minimums and keep costs down. • Allows us to take advantage of prepaid meals. • Gives us the opportunity to network and become involved in the service activities of the club.

  41. Financial Cost • You must pay Annual Club Dues. From these dues your clubs pays dues for you to Rotary International and to your District. • If meals are served at your meetings you must also pay that cost. • Additional activities/Events $200/year estimate • It is estimated that minimum Rotarian expenses will be between $850 --$1,250/yr.

What Do You Get Out of Rotary? • Some members feel one of the most enjoyable things we get out of Rotary is the opportunity to make new friends outside our usual realm of activity. • And of course we get to join with these new friends in service and fellowship More fun than a barrel of monkeys
