2. The Term Ahead • Numeracy - Data Handling (including graphs and mean, median, mode) Shape – rotations, reflections and angles. • Literacy - Journalistic writing. Narrative writing – Science Fiction genre. Balanced and Persuasive writing. • Science - Micro – organisms. Circuits. • History - Finish our studies of World War Two. • ICT - Multimedia presentations linked to History. • R.E. - Buddhism. • French - Body & Exercise. • P.E. - Gymnastics & Basketball • Art week Including clay work, studying the work of a significant artist • and sculpture work with a visiting artist.

3. Revision and SATs Revision programmes will start in early March to prepare for this year’s SATs tests. Revision will focus on: Maths, Reading comprehension and the NEW SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) test. There is a significant change to the SAT tests this year. There is no formal assessment of writing – this has been replaced by the SPAG test. SAT tests for all subjects (and across all levels) will take place in the week beginning 13th May 2013.

4. SPAG Test • This test will cover 4 key areas: Spelling, Punctuation, Grammar and Vocabulary. • It will comprise of 2 papers – a short, 20 word, spelling test and a full length Grammar, punctuation and spelling test which will last approximately 45 minutes. • This second paper will be made up of approximately 40 short answer questions. • The questions will range in type from multiple choice answers to short sentence responses.

6. SPAG Test – Sample questions • Write a question beginning with the words below. How much____________________ • Insert three commas in the correct places below. Write two sentences to show two different meanings. • Insert the capital letters and full stops in the passage below. 7. SPAG Test – Sample questions • Jimmy scaled the wall. Which word is closest in meaning to ‘scaled’ in the sentence above. • Change the question into a command. Could you get my coat? • Are the underlined words nouns or adjectives? I thought the football match was exciting but Tom said he was bored by the end. • Write a contraction to replace the underlined words.
