Who was the first to create a system in the science world? • Carolus Linnaeus • Botanist & Father of taxonomy • Came up with the system in the 1700s that is still used today
Linnaeus’s System of Classification • Organisms are classified by their:* physical structure (how they look)* evolutionary relationships* embryonic similarities (embryos)* genetic similarities (DNA)* biochemical similarities
Harry Potter Classification • Hogwarts • Houses: Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor • Year: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, ect. • Student: Harry, Ron, Hermione
Professor Linnaeus • Binominal nomenclature: each species is assigned a two-part scientific name • Two-part: Genus & Species Genius!!
