Useful information • The Office houses 250 staff. • Processes Benefit Claims: Employment Support Allowance, Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, • Active Sports and Social club (HASSRA)
DWP launched in 2009 a ‘Live Well Work Well’ Programme. The programme was rolled out over the next 18 months. We decided not to wait. Used the current HASSRA structure. Sold the programme to the ‘Management’ team. Set up a team – who were not made up of ‘senior’ managers. Why did we start?
In 2010 we have achieved – • Cornwall and IoS Gold award. • DWP National Diversity award scheme Respecting People – Work life balance WINNERS
2010 events • Staff led Shape up Group • Stress awareness training for staff. • Motivational event for Managers and Team Leaders. • Health awareness sessions on -Alcohol and drug awareness sexual health. • Sun safe session arranged.
Comments • Staff reaction.
What went wrong! • Not much • BUT • Expect the unexpected!
Snakes and Ladders Snakes • Funding!! Is always an issue.
Ladders • Staff now expect the group to come up with new events. • Without funding we were able to be creative in our thinking. • Staff have accepted the need to be realistic in their expectations. • Currently 8th in the DWP BDC League table up over the year from 75th.
Advice/tips • Engage staff at outset. • Management support at the outset. • Do not dismiss ideas because of the lack of funds or they may appear to be unrealistic. • Celebrate all achievements however, small. • Keep going, remain positive; what ever is thrown at you!
