    2. Character Counts Pledge I pledge today to do my best in reading, math, and all the rest. I promise to obey the rules in my class and in the school. I’ll respect myself and others too. I’ll expect the best in all I do. I’m here to learn all I can, To try my best and be all I am.

    4. ALL SETTINGS Trustworthiness Always tell the truth. Always make the right choice. Respect Always have patience. Keep hands, feet, other objects, and unkind words to ourselves. Listen to all staff members Responsibility Always be where you are supposed to be. Follow all rules and expectations. Model appropriate behavior for each other at all times. Fairness Play by the rules at all times. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Listen to and respect others’ opinions. Caring Be considerate and help others. Everyone makes mistakes. Learn to forgive. Citizenship Help make your school a better place. Obey all school rules. Respect all teachers and adults.

    6. Arrival Procedures Trustworthiness Parent Drop-Off: Go straight to your morning spot. Walkers: Walk directly to school. Bus Riders: Sit nicely on the bus. Line-up sitting in assigned spot. Respect Parent Drop-Off: Smile and say “Good Morning!” Walkers: Be considerate to the crossing guards. Bus Riders: Follow all bus rules. Line-up using a 6 inch voice. Listen to the adults. Responsibility Parent Drop-Off: Have your book bag and coat ready to go. Walkers: Use sidewalks and bike paths. Bus Riders: Be ready when the bus comes to pick you up. Line-up: Hold or wear your backpack.

    7. Arrival Procedures Fairness Parent Drop-Off: Walk together in a straight line with your hands to yourself. Walkers: Walk in a single-file line into the school. Be sure not to push others. Bus Riders: Take turns getting off the bus so everyone is safe. Line- up: Give everyone their personal space. Caring Parent Drop-Off: Say thank you to the teacher who opens your door. Walkers: Help others on their way to school. Bus Riders: Say “Thank you!” to your bus driver. Line-up: Say “Good Morning” to adults and classmates. Citizenship Parent Drop-Off: Help younger students into school. Walkers: Pick up any trash and throw it in the garbage can. Bus Riders: Keep your bus clean. Be a good role model.

    8. Cafeteria Trustworthiness Please eat your own food without sharing. If you find someone’s lunchbox, try to find the owner. If you cannot, then place it in the Lost and Found. Respect Respect those with allergies. Eat your own food. Be considerate of children who have different tastes in food. Say thank you to all the adults in the cafeteria. Stay seated until dismissed by an adult. Responsibility Stand quietly in line while you are waiting to get your lunch. Remember to throw away all your trash. Turn your lunch money in to your teacher in the morning.

    9. Cafeteria Fairness Be patient while you are getting your spork, napkins, and straw. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Stay in your spot in line. Caring Use kind words when getting your lunch tray. Say “please” and “thank you.” Help pick up after others when needed. Citizenship Obey all the lunchroom rules. Keep your eating area clean by picking up papers and cleaning up spills.

    10. Recess Trustworthiness Use all the recess equipment properly and return it when you are finished. Be honest, even if you made a mistake. Respect Use appropriate language. Respect all the adults. Set an example when lining up. Stand quietly. Keep the balls on the blacktop. Responsibility Keep track of items you bring from home. Pick up after yourself. Put all the equipment away. Tie your coat around your waist if you get too hot.

    11. Recess Fairness Play games fairly. When lining up, stay in your spot. Wait your turn when going on the equipment. Solve problems by listening to each other and using “I – messages”. Caring Ask others who are playing by themselves to play with you. Help someone when they get hurt. Get an adult right away. Citizenship Involve others and yourself in sports and other activities. Help keep the playground/classroom clean by putting trash in its place. Follow all of The Wheatlands’ rules.

    12. Washrooms Trustworthiness Use the washroom, clean your hands, and go directly back to class quietly. Use the washroom properly. Respect Respect the paper towels and soap in the washroom by not being wasteful. Give others their privacy. Responsibility Remember to keep the washroom clean. Keep hands to yourself. Keep water in the sink.

    13. Washrooms Fairness Patiently wait your time when standing in line. Be quick and quiet. Caring Be aware of those that have emergencies. Let them go ahead first. Show compassion to those who might have had an accident. Citizenship Please put trash where it belongs. Flush the toilet when you are finished.

    14. Hallways Trustworthiness Follow the The Wheatlands’ hallway rules…even when no one is watching. While using the restroom or getting a drink, use good manners…cleaning up and showing kindness. Respect Keep your hands to yourself and off the walls and artwork while you are walking anywhere in the school. If someone is talking in the hallway, keep walking quietly. Remember to be a good “role model” for others! Responsibility Make good choices: be quiet, walk, and keep your hands to yourself. Always take responsibility for your actions in the hallway.

    15. Hallways Fairness Hold the door open for others. Be quiet in the hallways because others are learning. Keep your hands and feet to yourself while walking or sitting in the hallways. Caring Pretend you are walking on marshmallows so you don’t disturb others. If younger students need assistance, help out or get an adult. Citizenship When you see garbage in the hallway, pick it up. Always model good behavior for all the other students. Walk on the right side of the hallway.

    16. Bus Trustworthiness Return lost items to the bus driver. Respect Use kind words and respect other students and the bus driver by keeping your hands and feet to yourself. Use quiet voices when talking with your neighbor. Responsibility Follow the bus rules. Make good seat choices. Fairness Wait your turn getting on and off the bus. Caring Greet and thank the bus driver. Citizenship Be quiet at railroad crossings. Help keep the bus clean.

    17. Assemblies/Field Trips Trustworthiness Stay with your group at all times. Be dependable by doing what you are supposed to be doing. Follow the rules. Respect Enter and exit silently Eyes on the speaker, remember good manners. Be a good listener and only clap at appropriate times. Responsibility Be sure to bring your money in on time. Dress appropriately for your field trip. Sit on your bottoms during assemblies, remember there are others behind you.

    18. Assemblies/Field Trips Fairness Give everyone a chance to participate. Be open-minded by considering what others have to say. Caring Be considerate to the speaker and/or tour guide. Be thankful and express your gratitude. Citizenship Be a good role model, because you are representing The Wheatlands. Keep your surroundings clean and better than when you arrived.

    19. Guest Teachers Trustworthiness Be honest. Follow the routine your teacher has taught you unless the guest teacher makes some changes. Respect Raise your hand and wait to be called on before you speak. Eyes on the teacher. Keep your voices off and ears open while the teacher is instructing. Follow all of the guest teacher’s directions and rules. Responsibility Show the guest teacher around and help her/him when needed. Listen to the teacher. Use quiet voices when talking. Stay on task.

    20. Guest Teachers Fairness Treat the guest teacher the same way you would treat your teacher. Assist the guest teacher with any questions they may have. Caring Be kind. Help the guest teacher understand your routine. Show the guest teacher where items are in the classroom if they are having trouble finding them. Citizenship Obey class rules and the six pillars of character. Cooperate. Clean up the classroom at the end of the day. Be a good role model.

    21. Dismissal Trustworthiness Trust the crossing guards. They are there to help you cross safely. Always go to your planned destination. Bring home all materials for homework. Respect Get your coats and bags quickly and quietly. Respect other people’s property. Walk quietly out of the building. Always listen to adults’ directions. Responsibility Plan a place to meet whomever you are going home with that day. Walk in the hallway. Make good choices while heading to your destination.

    22. Dismissal Fairness Say “excuse me” if you need to pass another student. Take turns going out the doors one at a time. Line up with your class in single file line. Caring Help someone if they look lost or are not sure where to go. Open the door if someone’s hands are full. Help a classmate carry their belongings. Citizenship Pick up any garbage you see and throw it away. Always walk on the sidewalks and bike paths. Walk your bike on the blacktop.
