  2. Cyber Bullying statistics Cyber bullying statistics refers to Internet bullying. Cyber bullying is a form of teen violence that can cause permanent damage or harm to young people. By being more aware of cyber bullying, teens and adults can help stop it.

  3. Cyber Bullying Results • Unlike traditional forms of bullying , young people who are the targets of cyber bullying at school have a greater risk for depression, which is one of the main reasons for suicide among teens.

  4. How Cyber Bullying Messages Are Communicated • Text or digital imaging messages sent on cellphones, e-mails, instant messaging, web pages, blogs, and chat rooms are the main sources used in cyber bullying.

  5. Words Can Kill • Many victims of extreme cyber bullying commit suicide, and the majority of those who do are teenagers.

  6. Megan Taylor Meier • Megan was being cyber bullied by one of her classmates, and her mother, Lori Drew, as well. She finally couldn’t take any more. Megan’s body was found in her bedroom closet; Megan hung herself.

  7. Reactions to megan meier’s death • This case has caused several jurisdictions to enact or to consider legislation prohibiting harassment over the Internet. • The Board of Aldermen for the City of Dardenne Prairie, passed an ordinance on November 22, 2007, in response to the incident. • The ordinance prohibits any harassment that utilizes an electronic medium, including the Internet, text messaging services, pagers, and similar devices. • Violations of the ordinance are treated as misdemeanors, with fines of up to $500 and up to 90 days imprisonment.

  8. Tyler clementi • Tyler Clementi was caught on camera kissing another man. He never knew about the video until he saw it on the Internet. Humiliated, Tyler committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge.

  9. Prosecutions made for tyler clementi’s case • The people that recorded Tyler kissing another man were named Dahrun Ravi, Tyler’s roommate, and Molly Wei, Ravi’s friend. On September 28, 2010, the Middlesex County prosecutor’s office stated that Ravi and Wei had been charged with invasion of privacy and transmitting a sexual encounter over the Internet.

  10. How many teen suicides are there each year? There are 33,000 a year, 2,750 a month, 634 per week, and 90 per day.

  12. CoMMon forms of cyber bullying • Harassment: Repeatedly sending offensive, rude, and insulting messages. • Flaming: Online "fighting" using electronic messages with angry, vulgar language.

Other Cyber Bullying Forms Impersonation: Breaking into an email or social networking account and using that person's online identity to send or post vicious or embarrassing material to or about others. Outing and Trickery: Sharing someone's secrets or embarrassing information, or tricking someone into revealing secrets or embarrassing information and forwarding it to others.

  14. Children from all around the world, mainly between the ages of 10 and 18, have been cyber bullied.

  15. A bill for cyber bullying was introduced by Senator Joanne Verger. The bill calls for schools to develop policies prohibiting the kind of bullying that can follow a student wherever they go. The bill passed through the Senate on February 15. Joanne Verger calls the bill,” an active approach to limiting the pain and suffering associated with cyber bullying that reaches into the real world.”

More than half of them bullied the same victim both physically and in cyber form. • The remaining 30% of cyber bullies have bullied only in the cyber world, not physically. • Cyber bullies do have experience with traditional bullying, however only as a bully; they had little experience with victimization themselves.

  18. The practice of cyber bullying is not limited to children and, while the behavior is identified by the same definition in adults, the distinction in age groups is sometimes referred to as cyber stalking or cyber harrassment.

  19. When someone is cyber bullied, they may feel like they have no one to turn to for help.

  20. Cyber bullying can destroy someone mentally, physically, and emotionally.

  21. Being cyber bullied is a horrible experience. It can change someone’s state of mind and it can permanently damage someone’s life.

  23. What methods work with different kinds of cyber bullies? Some methods are unique to a certain kind of cyber bully, and so are the ways the cyber bully maintains their secrecy or broadcasts their actions towards others.

  24. Cyber bullying can lower self esteem.

  25. Cyber bullying is responsible for making teenagers harm themselves.

  26. A world without cyber bullies is a world with more peace and less tragedy.

  27. Cyber bullying is a serious matter that must be addressed in schools and homes. Cyber bullying must be stopped before more damage is done.
