  4. PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE METHODOLOGIES 1. Reconstruction: • Most intrusive, most expensive, most time-consuming • Improves alignment issues, width, curves, humps, cross section, etc. • Usually requires total storm drainage system • Replaces entire road structure, base and pavement 2. Reclamation: • Grinds existing pavement into existing base • Improves minor alignment issues • Often involves minor drainage improvements • Replaces entire pavement structure

  5. PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE METHODOLOGIES 3. Mill & Pave: • Grinds off top pavement surface • Maintains existing alignment • Replaces tops on existing catch basins • Replaces top course of pavement 4. Chip Seal • Maintains entire pavement structure • Adds asphalt seal coat embedded with stone chips 5. Crack Seal: • Maintains entire pavement structure • Seals individual cracks with asphalt material

  6. GRAVEL ROAD MAINTENANCE METHODOLOGIES 1. Re-grade Gravel: • Most time-consuming, highest maintenance • Highly susceptible to wash outs • Dust issues • Difficult to maintain in winter 2. Bituminous Base Course & Chip Seal • Provides many benefits of paving while retaining feel and appearance of gravel • Support of Planning Commission & Land Use Office
