Salinity • In a salt marsh, salt tends to concentrate as the water evaporates during low tide. • Glasswort– stores water (moisture) in leaves or stems - so the plant does not dry out and die. (tastes salty)
Salinity • In the Sound if levels are too high or too low fish have the ability to move to better suited conditions
Tides At Low Tide: • Worms must bury in sand • Crabs hide under rocks • Crab coloring helps to camouflage with rocks
Tides As Tide Comes In: • Barnacles have ability to attach themselves to rocks or shells in order to “hold on”
Sunlight • Periwinkles (Snails) gather at low tide on the lower half of the rocks and below seaweed where it remains moist and out of the direct sun.
