Acuity Instructional Resources for Students 2008-2009 School Year
What Are Acuity Instructional Resources? • Online guided tutorials with three components • A series of screens that introduce and explain a skill • Interactive guided practice questions • A mini-assessment (6 questions) to evaluate progress on the skill • Optional audio component for some skills • Use Acuity Instructional Resources to supplement classroom instruction or to provide targeted remediation or review • Assign Instructional Resources to students directly from Acuity reports in areas of need, or from the main menu • Preview any Instructional Resource before assigning it to students
Preview Instructional Resources • Click INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES on the left-hand navigation menu • Click PREVIEW • Search for Skills by Skill Group or Standards • Select the following: • Subject • Grade • Content/Strand/Band • Performance Indicator • Click SEARCH 1 2 3
Preview Instructional Resources • Click the Preview link under Set 1 or Set 2 • Acuity will assign Set 1 to students first
Assign Instructional Resources • Currently, you can assign Instructional Resources to students • Directly from an Assessment Report • By skill/standard • By student • Starting in Spring 2009, Acuity will be able to automatically assign Instructional Resources to students in skill areas of need based on their assessment performance
Assign IRs from an Assessment Report • Click REPORTS on the left-hand navigation menu • Click ASSESSMENT REPORTS, then choose the desired report (Student or Class) • Select Subject, Assessment Type, and other information (as relevant) from the drop-down menus • Click GET REPORT • Click the Assign link next to the area of instruction
Assign IRs from an Assessment Report • Use the drop-down menu to select the skill • Click SHOW CURRENT ASSIGNMENTS
Assign IRs from an Assessment Report • Check off the students you want to assign Instructional Resources (note “tiers”) • Click ASSIGN THESE STUDENTS
Assign IRs by Skill/Standard • Click INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES on the left-hand navigation menu • Click ASSIGN BY SKILL/STANDARD • Search for skills by Standard or Skill Group • Click SEARCH
Assign IRs by Skill/Standard • Click the corresponding checkboxes of students that you wish to assign the Instructional Resource • Click ASSIGN THESE STUDENTS
Assign IRs by Student • Click INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES on the left-hand navigation menu • Click ASSIGN BY STUDENT • Select your Search Criteria: • Class • Student • Choose whether to select skills by Skill Group or Standards • Click SEARCH
Assign IRs by Student • Click the corresponding checkboxes of resources you wish to assign to the student • Click ASSIGN THESE RESOURCES
IRs: The Student Experience • Students can log into Acuity using their own usernames & passwords • Educators can view/print student login information: • Click MANAGEMENT • ClickCLASSES • ClickVIEWROSTER • Students click STUDY to complete Instructional Resources
View Quiz Results from an IR • Click INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES on the left-hand navigation menu • Click STATUS BY STUDENT or STATUS BY SKILL GROUP • Enter search criteria to find relevant Instructional Resources reports • Click SEARCH
View Quiz Results from an IR • Click the score link in the Last Score column to view detailed results from the quiz • Click the Result link next to each problem number to view the actual question
Navigation/Demo • Log into Acuity: • Periodic Assessment Web site: http://schools.nyc.gov/Accountability/ResourcesforEducators/PeriodicAssessments • Click “Acuity” • User Names are DOE Outlook email addresses (e.g., emullins5) • Passwords are 6-digit file numbers • Preview an Instructional Resource • Assign an Instructional Resource to a Student • Student experience completing an Instructional Resource • View student results from an Instructional Resource quiz
