  6. Automated Workflow • Working to complete full-scale automation for eText title creation directly from the integrated HiEd workflow. • Goal would be to eliminate nearly all the current manual activities. • Expect to be complete by December of this year. • This automation takes advantage of workflow processes as well as the Content Planning Tool and Documentum. • The workflow technical services team is also working with the LTGE Media Server team. • When completed, the Media Server integration will allow us to complete the Jazz automation and lay the groundwork for all other LTGE platforms.

  7. NextText - January 2013 • A new eText environment that combines smart content and workflow strategies by utilizing taxonomies, learning objectives, basic (study and practice) assessments, and modular re-flowable content with rich media and interactivity. • In addition to standalone and library offerings, we anticipate combining this experience with the Next Gen Learning Applications and other key initiatives including BlueSky. • NexText user applications will be born mobile; supporting tablets and, as needed, small-form factor devices (e.g. iPod Touch, iPhone and Android smartphones). • The content will be based on the XHTML5 standard and capable of creating ePUB3 files • NexText will leverage our existing eText server infrastructure and share many core features and code components including platform integration models, SMS/RUMBA integrations and connections to the new Digital Libraries. The NexText application will also be born into the new Integrated Workflow. • NexText products will coexist alongside existing eText titles so that students and faculty who have subscriptions to page-fidelity eText titles will also be able to easily move back and forth to their bookshelf (or Digital Library) and into NexText titles.

  8. NextText II - Summer 2013 • Next major release of NexText would includes the development of a new rules-engine capable of providing smart recommendations to assist students studying key topics. • A natural extension of the smart content concepts whereby learning objectives, taxonomy topics, basic assessments, analytics, and methods adapted from learning research and cognitive psychology are all combined to provide a scalable model for an interactive eBook experience. • Focus will be on providing a lightweight student experience that “recommends” rather than “replaces”. • We believe this approach offers a powerful extension to the traditional study paradigm and can substantively differentiate Pearson from other eBook technologies.
