4. Attendance and Course Credit • Importance of Attendance • If you are not in class, you cannot pass • Earning Course Credit • Must earn course credits to graduate 26 credits • Once course = One Credit

6. Block Scheduling • Students are able to take 7 classes their Freshman year. Each class lasts 90 minutes. • Students will take 4 courses August – December. After Christmas Break, students will begin 3 new courses and finish Algebra I. • Algebra I and Algebra I Honors will last both semesters..

7. Honors Courses • Students who want to be ranked first must take the Honors English and Honors Math Courses all 4 years of high school. • Honors courses require extra work and move at a much faster pace. Reading, Writing, and Project Assignments are to be done outside of class time. • Students and Parents must be prepared to commit to success in the honors curriculum. • While there are no prerequisites for Freshman honors classes, students must maintain at least a ‘C’ in Freshman honors courses to continue in the Honors curriculum. • If a student does not pass the honors class, he or she will repeat the subject in a non-Honors class the following semester.

8. Program of Study/Elective Focus • Each student must choose an Elective Focus and take a minimum of 3 electives within one particular area. • Foreign Language and Fine Art requirements may be waived if you are not planning to attend college. If you decide not to take these classes, you must take additional classes within your Program of Study. • You will be asked to choose your Elective Focus this evening. • YOU CAN CHANGE THE ELECTIVE FOCUS AT A LATER DATE.

13. BCHS and BCVS Classes • Students may take classes at BCHS or BCVS • Transportation is provided between each class for students to get back and forth to classes • Freshmen may take the following BCVS courses: Keyboarding Agriscience Construction Core Transportation Core Intro to Welding

15. REGISTRATION • Each one of you should be receiving a registration form. • We will walk through each section of the form. Please make your selections and turn the form in as you leave. • You may not receive your first choice in some categories due to limited availability of seats. We will try to accommodate your requests as much as possible. • Please ask questions as we go through this.

16. English • Each student must take English I • Please select English I or Honors English I • Remember that the Honors curriculum requires much time and work outside of the regular class time. • Also remember if you child is registered for Honors English, they also will have to take the Honors Algebra.

17. Mathematics • All students will be taking a version of Algebra I • All Students choose Algebra I or Honors Algebra I

18. Science • All Freshman are required to take a science course. Bledsoe County has elected for the Freshman science course to be either Physical Science or Agriscience. • Choose Physical Science, Honors Physical Science or AgScience • Choose Agriscience if you are interested in any of the Agriculture Programs of Study (Pre-Vet, Animal Production, or Environmental Resources) • All other students may choose between the 2 courses.

19. Humanities • Freshmen must take 1 Humanities course. • They may choose between Ancient History, World History, or Geography

20. Wellness • Each student is required to take Wellness their Freshman year.

21. Required Electives • Students may choose one of the following classes to complete their schedule: • General Music • Vocal Music • Advanced Vocal Music (Instructor Approval Required) • Marching Band (fall) • Concert Band (spring) • PE • Athletic Conditioning (Instructor Approval Required) • Transportation Core (CTE) • Construction Core (CTE) • Intro to Welding

23. Complete Registration • The parent and the student need to sign the registration form. • There are boxes set up outside for the registration forms to be turned in on your way out this evening.
