1830 • The first lawn mower was invented in 1830 by Edwin Beard Budding. Cast iron gears were used to power the blades.
1850’s • The first patent on the machines lapsed and other companies started making their own variations. A new model named SilensMessor (meaning silent cutter)was introduced and, it used a chain to power the blades.
1890s • The first motorized mowers appeared in the 1890s. These were powered by small petrol or steam engines.
1919 • The first riding mowers were introduced. They were used mainly for large areas like golf courses.
Today • Lawnmowers today vary greatly. There are push mowers, riding mowers, zero turn mowers, solar powered mowers, mowers equipped with GPS, mowers that can mow on their own, and much more
The Future • I believe that in the future lawnmowers actually might go backwards in time. With all of the concerns about the environment I believe most people will utilize the models that are powered only by being pushed by humans or through the use of solar power.
