  5. Human Resources • Managing 416 total employees • Full-time: 287 • Part-time/Seasonal: 129 • Total Employees Under BoC: 203 • Volunteer Fire Fighters: 94 HR Director: Paula Peace

  6. Public Works • Maintains 404 miles of public roads • Set a paving record in 2018 with roughly 31 miles of road asphalted or tar and graveled • In 2018, cleaned up over 500 down trees on right-of-way • Install on average 100 drainage pipes annually • Operates two Recycling & Waste Centers (Tuesday – Saturday) on Camp Road and Cove Road Public Works Director: Kim Quinton

  7. Utilities • Pickens County Water & Sewer Authority was established in 1969 by the House Bill 978.  • Serve 2,942 Customers (as of 3/1/19) • 142.9 miles of Water Main (reaching all four corners of the county) • Sets an average of 65 meters annually Utilities Director: Philip Dean

Office of Planning & Development • Issues an average 475 building permits annually • Issues an average 115 business licenses annually • Renews an average over 600 business licenses annually • Manages an average 15 rezone requests annually • Proposes amendments to and enforces county ordinances related to Planning & Development issues. Director: Rodney Buckingham

  9. Parks & Recreation • Headquartered at the Robert P. Jones Community Center • Manages Roper Park • Serves an average of 1,200 kids annually in recreation programing • The Community Center serves on average over 250 adults annually in recreation programing • Rentals of Parks & Recreation facilities average $40,000 annually PCRD Director: Brian Jones

Fire & Rescue • Operates 24/7/365 • Total of 10 Fire Stations (5 county operated/5 volunteer operated) • Manages the 911 Center where they process an average of 19,701 calls for service annually • On average, almost half of the calls are medical responses or fire related • Facebook: Pickens County Fire and Rescue Chief Sloan Elrod

Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency • EMHSA is responsible for planning, response, recovery and mitigation for all manmade and natural disasters. • EMHSA manages the Emergency Operations Center and is responsible for processing of requests for state and federal disaster declarations. • EMHSA is now offering Community Emergency Response Team training in the county. Animal Control & Animal Shelter • Average intake and outtake of 100 dogs and cats monthly. • Responds to an average of 22 animal control cases a month. • Open Weekly (Tuesday – Saturday) to the public (staff operates the shelter 365 days a year) • Located 3563 Camp Road in Jasper Shelter Director: Jerry Watkins

  13. Robert P. Jones Community Center Paid in full (January 2019)

  14. Public Works new in-house brine operation to increase efficiency in treating roads during severe weather.

  15. Pickens County Fire Station #12 – Moss Fire Department located off Carlan Road to serve the Southwestern corner of the county. This is a SPLOST project.

  16. Future home of Pickens County Fire Station #2 located at the corner of Worley Crossroads and Old Canton Road in Tate. This is a SPLOST project.

  17. Plans to build an updated facility to house Public Works, Utilities and the Fleet Management departments as well as to reconstruct the recycling center off Camp Road are underway.

  18. Grandview Dam Project • Partnership between the county and Grandview Lake Company will give the county a water reservoir and a treatment facility. This will increase the county’s water infrastructure capabilities.
