Background of Hill City Elementary • HCES opened in 2002 with a student population of over 750 students. • Currently, HCES has 545 students in grades K-5 • HCES has a history of excellence in test scores leading Pickens County and exceeding the state standard • Areas that have been identified for improvement are Math, Writing, and Science
Things that you can do that are not volunteering • Field Trips • Lunch/Breakfast • Awards Ceremonies • School Parties • PTO functions/PTO volunteers
Volunteer Opportunities • Media Center • Outdoor Garden • Art, Music, Physical Education • PTO (Road Race, Movie Nights, Santa Shop, Spring Fest, etc.) • Painting murals in the building • Bulletin boards in hallways • Heritage Day • Book Fair

How to be a GREAT volunteer • REMEMBER Education is NUMBER 1 at HCES • We must work together to maintain the integrity of the instructional day • Do not interrupt a classroom • Pre-schedule all volunteering. The teacher will let Ms. Angie know to put you on the list. If your name is not on the list you will not be allowed to go to the classroom or the media center. • Be on TIME. If a teacher is expecting you, let her know if you can‘t fulfill your commitment • Volunteers must stay in the room that they are assigned to volunteer in. You may not go to other classrooms.
How to be a GREAT volunteer • Follow dress code. You are representing HCES and while volunteering you are considered to be part of our HCES family. You should follow the dress code set forth for our staff. • Sign in at the office when volunteering. • Wear your name tag while in the building. • Follow all emergency procedures such as fire, illness, etc. • Take direction from your teacher. Remember he/she is in charge of the classroom.
