What is the Kiwanis Family? • The Kiwanis Family consists of Service Leadership Programs (SLPs) that are sponsored by Kiwanis • Such as: Aktion Club, Circle K, Key Club, KIWIN’S, Key Leader, Builders Club, and K-Kids
Student-led community service club for elementary students • Motto: We Build • Core Values: Caring, Leadership, Inclusiveness, Character Building • Pledge: "As a K-Kid, I promise to serve my neighborhood and my school. I will show respect toward my environment and I will try to make the world a better place in which to live."
Example K-Kids projects: • Visiting and assisting the elderly • Hosting community food drives • Making Valentine’s cards for children’s hospitals • Fundraising for school sports equipment & extracurricular activities • Assisting at local facilities such as: community gardens, community centers libraries, etc.
Adults helping K-Kids • Kiwanis Advisor, Faculty Advisor, Parents, Teachers, Principal, etc. • Adults provide supervision and safety • Adults help make sure that everyone is treated equally and respectfully
Terrific Kids • A student recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. • Students work with their classroom teacher and establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance, or schoolwork
Bring Up Grades • A program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades into an acceptable range, and maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to the next • Recognition items have “bug” theme
Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school and junior high students • More than 45,000 members worldwide • Motto: Building Leaders • Objectives, Vision, Mission, and Core Values are the same as K-Kids.
Pledge: "I pledge on my honor to uphold the objects of Builders Club. To better my school, my community, my nation, and myself. To aid those in need while enhancing leadership capabilities, and to encourage the fellowship of all mankind.”
What does Builders Club do? • Members identify problems within their community and try to fix them through service projects, fundraisers, food/clothes drives, etc. • Have very similar service projects and fundraisers to K-Kids • Participate with global charities such as March of Dimes, UNICEF, Eliminate, etc.
Co-sponsorship • Key Clubs can co-sponsor a K-Kids and/or Builders Club with their sponsoring Kiwanis Club at a local elementary or middle school. • Helps recruit more members to join Key Club after middle school and improve Kiwanis Family relations.
Weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. • Focuses on service leadership • Principles of Key Leader: Personal Integrity, Personal Growth, Respect, Building Community, Pursuit of Excellence • Attend Key Leader workshop or check online for more information
CNH KIWIN’S • CNH KIWIN’S is the 32nd District of Key Club International. • It is the only district that co-exist in the same geographic area of another district (CNH Key Club) • Daughters of Past Kiwanis District Governor Sid Smith wanted to join a service organization. However, since Key Club was an all-male club at the time, Smith charter an all-female club called Keyettes • The name was eventually changed to Keywannattes and then finally to KIWIN’S
Circle K is an international collegiate service organization sponsored by Kiwanis International , with over 13,000 members • In the Cal-Nev-Ha District of CKI, there are over 3,000 members from over 60 community colleges, private schools, universities, and state colleges
Motto: Live to serve, Love to serve • Tenets: Service, Leadership, Fellowship • Vision: To be the leading global community-service organization on college and university campuses that enriches the world one member, one child and one community at a time
What does Circle K do? • Like Key Club, Circle K members perform a wide variety of services • Fundraise for preferred charities such as March of Dimes , Children’s Miracle Network, and UNICEF • STUFH (Students Teaming Up to Fighting Hunger) • Kiwanis One Day • Key to College • Tutoring children • Volunteering at soup kitchens • Helping at animals shelters
Aktion Club is the only service club for adults with disabilities • More than 12,000 members worldwide.
Motto: Where development has no disability • Vision: To develop competent, capable, caring leaders through the vehicle of service • Mission: To provide adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative, leadership skills and to serve their communities • Core Values: Character Building, Leadership, Service, and Caring
What does Aktion Club do? • Raise funds for Special Olympics • Purchase material for local libraries • Plant trees, paint benches at parks • Clean up parks and roads • Kiwanis Golf Tournaments • Make and sell Christmas ornaments • Make cards for sick children • Other service projects and fundraisers • Volunteer with other branches of the family
Kiwanis International is a world-wide service organization founded in 1915 • In 80 countries with 600,000 members • Motto: Serving the Children of the World • Defining Statement: "Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.”
Kiwanis Kiwanis serves children and youth by: • Improving the quality of life directly through activities promoting health, education, etc. • Encouraging leadership and service among youth with Service Leadership Programs
What does Kiwanis do? • Kiwanis sponsor local SLP clubs • Engage in hands-on service projects that benefit the local community • Create fundraisers for charities such as Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP), Eliminate Project, UNICEF, CMN, March of Dimes, etc.
How does Kiwanis support us? • They created Service Leadership Programs like Key Club! • They provide chaperones for events • They provide professional support and advice • They provide partial funds to help with costs for District Convention, Key Leader, etc. • They provide scholarships for students
Faculty Advisors • A faculty advisor is your club’s advisor. He/she should be a faculty member at your school. • Invite your faculty advisors to your board and club meetings so that he/she could be updated on what the club is doing and how he/she could assist in any way • Communicate with your faculty advisor at least two times a month • Try to get your faculty advisor engaged in your Key Club and make sure he/she understands what Key Club is and what do we do.
Kiwanis Advisors • A Kiwanis Advisor is the liaison between Key Club and the sponsoring Kiwanis Club • Reach out when your club needs help with chaperones, getting forms signed, District event registration, money handling, and Kiwanis to Key Club relations • Contact your Kiwanis Advisor at least twice per month to make sure that they are updated
How to get involved with the Kiwanis Family • Identify all the Kiwanis Family branches within your sponsoring Kiwanis Family • Reach out to the officers of the Kiwanis Club, Circle K, Builders Club, etc. • Attend their meetings and Division Council Meetings (DCMs) • Don’t forget to introduce yourself! • Invite them to your events (service projects, fundraisers, etc.) • Collaborate with other Kiwanis Family branches to have interclub events
How to get involved with K-Kids/Builders Club • Look for potential elementary or middle schools to charter • Talk with your sponsoring Kiwanis Club about this to proposal • Help out with the chartering process
How to get involved with KIWIN’S • Some school have both KIWIN’S and Cal-Nev-Ha Key Clubs • Instead of promoting rivalry and competition - celebrate the Kiwanis Family! • Collaborate with KIWIN’S during Key Club Week • Have a fundraising competition to see which branch can fundraise more money during Eliminate Week • Make sure to have permission and fill out any forms to make these interclub events happen!
How to get involved with Circle K • Some Kiwanis Clubs in the CNH District sponsor both Key Club and Circle K • Consider a mentoring program between both Key Club and Circle K where Circle K members give advice about high school, college applications, personal statements, homework help, etc. • Invite Circle K members to your Key Club meetings or visit their Circle K meetings • Request your local Circle K club to host a Key to College event if they don’t have one already • Kiwanis One Day!
How to get involved with Aktion Club & Kiwanis • Attend their club meetings or invite them to your Key Club Meetings • Ask Kiwanis or Aktion Club members to guest speak at your Key Club meeting • Set up interclub service projects and fundraisers • Ask Kiwanians and other Kiwanis Family branches if they want to have interclub service projects • Kiwanis One Day and Kiwanis Family Month • Host an appreciate party for your Kiwanis Family branches
More ideas to maintain Kiwanis Family Relations • If you are an retiring officer with a new board getting installed soon, make sure to take them to Kiwanis meetings and DCM’s so they are introduced to the Kiwanians! • Provide club updates or report for your Kiwanis Club so that they are updated with what’s happening at your Key Club • Set up mentoring program between Key Clubbers and Kiwanis Family members

Why are Kiwanis Family relations important? • The Kiwanis Family is what makes Key Club so unique compared to other service organizations around the world. • It creates a stronger bond and relationship between Key Clubs and Kiwanis Family branches • It enhances your Key Club experience • It allows you to work with your public speaking, how you interact with different age groups, professionalism, etc. • It could be your HOME away from HOME. • Each Kiwanis Family branch is important and we rely on each other in order to become successful altogether. • Your Kiwanis Family relations are recorded on your club’s MRF
