  2. The Only Organized Entity Found In The New Testament Is The Local Church • The apostles gave instructions to the church, but often fulfilled their duties while working with individual congregations

  3. The Only Organized Entity Found In The New Testament Is The Local Church • We can see the local church mentioned in 1 Cor 1:2 • Some letters show the organization - Phil 1:1

  4. The Only Organized Entity Found In The New Testament Is The Local Church • All Christians are expected to join with a local congregation to fulfill their duties

  5. The Only Organized Entity Found In The New Testament Is The Local Church • There are duties Christians must carry out as a part of a local group Christians come together to worship on the first day of the week - Acts 20:7 They gather to partake of the Lord’s Supper - 1 Cor 11:17-22 The collection for a common treasury is taken on the first day of the week - 1 Cor 16:1-2 It is important for Christians not to avoid the assembly times - Heb 10:25 We work together, each using his best talents, for the church - Rom 12:3-8

  6. Each Church Is Autonomous • Apostles were the only ones given the authority to tell churches what to do. • Elders are only over a single church

  7. Each Church Is Autonomous • Each church was responsible for its own work • Many brethren talk about local autonomy, but don’t practice it

  8. But Didn’t The Church In Jerusalem Tell The Other Churches What To Believe? • It was not a conference of churches • It was the local church who considered the matter - Acts 15:6

  9. But Didn’t The Church In Jerusalem Tell The Other Churches What To Believe? • The local church (singular) decided to send out a letter - Acts 15:22 • This doesn’t even come close to the religious conferences in the denominations today

  10. God's Plan of Salvation • GOD'S PART • The great love of God for man (Jn 3:16) • He gave His Son, Jesus Christ, as the Saviour (Lk 19:10) • Sent the Holy Spirit as a guide (Jn 16:13) • Gave the Gospel as "the power" unto salvation (Rom 1:16) • Provided atonement by the blood of Christ (Rom 5:9) • MAN'S PART • Hear the Gospel (Rom 10:17, Jn 8:32) • Believe the Gospel (Heb 11:6, Jn 20:31) • Repent of past sins (Lk 13:3, Acts 17:30) • Confess faith in Jesus Christ (Rom 10:10, Matt 10:32) • Be Baptized (Gal 3:27, Mk 16:16, Acts 2:38) • Be faithful unto death (Rev 2:10) God has done His part. Have you done yours?
