Committees’ Decisions Summary Contact: Ken Shaffer, FGDC OS, kmshaffer@fgdc.gov Read ahead: none • Steering Committee – 9/20/12 • The SC approved the Geospatial Platform multi-agency investment contributions through FY 2016. • The SC also approved the Geospatial Platform governance structure, as laid out in the Business Plan. • Coordination Group • none • Executive Committee Meeting – 10/26/12 Meeting • The ExCom recommends that the Steering Committee approve the proposed NGDA themes list, including the proposed change to Marine Utilities (utilities theme subject to future revision). • The ExCom notionally supports the Symbology Store Initiative.

Executive Committee Contact: Arista Maher, FGDC OS, amaher@fgdc.gov Read ahead: none • Last meeting: October 26 • ExCom members discussed the A-16 Data Themes, including the Utilities Theme. • ExCom recommended Steering Committee approval of the current NGDA Themes list, including the proposed change to Marine Utilities. (The Utilities Theme will be subject to future revision). • ExCom was updated on the GAO evaluation, the recent activities of NGAC, and the recent activities on the Geospatial Platform. • The Symbology Storefront proposal was discussed, and ExCom members notionally supported its integration into the Geospatial Platform, with the caveat that they may reevaluate support given new information about scope, schedule, transition plan, and costs of the initiative. • Next meeting: TBD

GAO Report Update Recommendations to FGDC • Develop a plan with timeframe to facilitate the implementation of OMB’s portfolio management guidance (goals, performance measures, annual reporting to OMB) • Develop and implement guidance and timeframe for identifying planned geospatial investments using the Geospatial Platform • Create and update a strategic plan with timeframe and implement the plan within the established time frame • (1) a vision statement for the NSDI • (2) outcome-oriented goals and objectives that address all aspects of the NSDI • (3) a description of how the goals and objectives are to be achieved, including a description of the resources needed to achieve the goals and objectives and how the FGDC is to work with other agencies to achieve them • (4) performance measures for achieving the stated goals • (5) external factors that could affect the achievement of the goals and objectives.

GAO Report Update • DOI preparing required response with action plan - due January 10, 2013 • DOI plans to coordinate with DOC and DOT • NSDI Strategic Plan approach – initial thoughts • Include stakeholder input • Utilize the NGAC for recommendations • Include Geospatial Platform and A-16 activities and priorities • Plan should pull from existing materials and not become a large document development effort • Options for strategy meeting in January with agencies who have/are developing strategic plans
